Sparkle and Pearls
I have always heard that every lady should have a nice string of pearls. They seem to be the iconic fashion accessory. And I believe this notion to be true in the crafting world! It seems like every card I create and/or admire has pearls on it! And today's card is no different.
The designer paper is a beautiful print from K & Co. I used my craft knife to cut around some of the petals and leaves and then popped them up with dimensional foam. The bow is a "faux bow" I created and glued to the base. And peeking out below you see one pearl! Why go overboard with too much of a good thing, right?
Continued prayers to all of those dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Irene this week. There are millions of prayers all over the world going up for you!
Be sure to visit Our Daily Bread Designs tomorrow as they will be kicking off a new month! And that means new stamps, a blog hop and PRIZES! Blessings to all...

SSIC104- Recipe Challenge & A Sneak Peek
Good morning! So many of my friends (bloggers and otherwise) have been affected by Hurricane Irene. Thankfully I can report the majority suffered little to no damage! A few shaky nerves but that is to be expected!
I must confess I have been glued to the television all weekend. I am a newshound of sort. And yes, I am one of those crazy people who has to watch news channels 24/7. On Friday night I managed to stay up until 1AM and then promptly got back up at 4AM to check the weather. We are not in an area directly affected but with such a huge block of the population living on the Eastern Seaboard, everyone knows someone there!
Apparently a lack of sleep can be inspirational as I managed to get quite a few projects done. And today's card is one of them. I really hate to buy flowers for every card. Honestly, I just never know what color I will need. I found a cool tutorial that shows how to make flowers out of satin ribbon. I used a larger satin ribbon (5/8") than the tutorial does. But it worked out nicely. The centers are simple brown brads.
Super easy and this card fit in with the recipe challenge at SSIC. Participants had to use 3 things from the items listed. I selected ribbon, a flourish and brads. And I will let you in on a little secret... You haven't seen this stamp set before! Our Daily Bread Designs will be releasing this fabulous set on Thursday. Be sure to check out the blog hop Thursday morning at 8AM EST to see what the girls have come up with.
Thanks as always for reading and don't forget to click on "tutorial" above to see this fab flower technique! Blessings...

ODBDSLC74 - Doilies
Welcome to another fun week at Our Daily Bread Designs' Shining the Light Challenge! This week we want to see doilies! They can be crocheted just like Grandmas or a modern day die cut. Complete challenge details including Mr. Linky (where you post your creation) may be found at ODBD's blog. When using online galleries please use ODBDSLC74 as a keyword. We want to see what you create!
Here's my creation for the week...
This one has several layers of distressed card stock and designer paper. The beautiful Cheery Lynn Designs die, English Tea Party, is peeking out so delicately from behind. Both stamp sets are the new mid-month releases from ODBD, Scrolly Borders and Scripture Series 2. Behind the die cuts you can see a strip of seam binding (custom dyed of course...) And let me just tell ya my hands almost never came clean after this one... lol... Don't forget to visit my Sister Sticks. They have some beautiful things to share. And please leave them some love! I know they appreciate it! I do! :-) Blessings...
The other members of the challenge team... a.k.a. my sistah sticks...

Mojo 205 and a Blog Candy Winner!
As I write this post a large storm is bearing down on the East Coast. Sounds like parts of the United States will be in for a difficult weekend with Hurricane Irene making landfall tomorrow. One of my dear friends from college lives on the coast of North Carolina. I pray everyone will have a safe weekend and take precautions needed to avoid danger.
We have a blog candy winner! Random.org selected the number 2 and that comment belongs to TAM! Please reach out to me in the coming days with your mailing address. I will get that out to ya! If you haven't notice I have reached the 100 followers point! Whoo hoo! THANK YOU! You guys rock!
I wanted to share my card this week for Mojo Monday. As you know Mojo provides a sketch each week for participants to follow. Here is my card for this week's sketch.

Delight Yourself in the Lord
The Design Team at ODBD participated in a Flower Soft blog hop today. If you haven't had a chance to check it out click here. The ladies created some spectacular things. I was inspired to try my hand using this awesome product as well! This new paper by Bo Bunny has a super cute picket fence at the bottom. So I decided to have some Flower Soft Sweet Pea mix peeking out... So much fun! A swash of pearls, some Copic coloring and a fab Cheery Lynn Designs die cut pulled it all together! I love it when it works out that way! See ya next time!

Green & White are such a delight...
Thought I would pop in and share a clean and simple design. I hate to throw out anything! And my t-shirt drawer is definitive proof of this shortcoming... So when I found myself with a sliver of a doily die cut I had to put it to good use!
I stamped the image (from ODBD's Faith set) on the DP twice. The edge has been cut with a paper punch and then stitched (using a zigzag stitch) on the card base. This design is smaller than what I normally do. (4 1/4 x 5 1/4) A 1 inch wide band of embossed CS hides the doily remnant. I stitched that on as well using a simple straight stitch. The final touches include a twill bow and a scalloped Spellbinder die with the sentiment. (may be found on the Faith set also...) Easy as pie! That sounds good! Off to create or maybe enjoy a slice of pie???
Thanks for reading!
Paper - Colorbok, GCD Melody Ross Designer Collections Homespun Chic; Stamps - ODBD Faith; Ink - CTMH Garden Green; Spellbinders - Petite Scalloped Circles Large; Cuttlebug Embossing Folder Swiss Dots; Twill Ribbon - unknown; Sewing Machine; Edge Punch - Fiskars

SSIC103 - What are you afraid of?
The ladies at SSIC have asked challenge participants to try something new. But not just anything... Players are to use something they have been afraid to try. Well after thinking a couple of minutes **there are plenty of things I'm scared of** I came up with a list of things to do. Thankfully I narrowed it down to two...
1. Silhouettes - I love the look but have been TERRIFIED to try putting one on a card... I feel very inept in this department.... My dear friend, Barb recently sent me this beautiful paper by Stampin' Up...
2. Using absolutely NO stamping on the outside... only the inside... ***Oh, dear readers this one almost broke me out into a cold sweat***
Now for where the card will be going...
Our church has been going through some transitions as of late. Our beloved pastor of 22 years was called to leave our church and start a new ministry elsewhere. As you can imagine this has left a big hole in our church and heart. Our search committee has been working diligently and prayerfully to find the man God has prepared for us. Our long time Chair of Deacons also retired and this left us asking one of the other deacons to step up into this role. So his role has become quite time consuming not to mention stressful. I thought this stamp by ODBD would give him some encouragement during this challenging time. Thank you so much for stopping by! And until we meet again!
The outside...
And the inside...

Enjoy
I love putting blue and white together on a card! For several years I had a white matelasse coverlet on our bed. And under it was the most beautiful china blue and white sheet set! Oh, how I loved that combo. Our bed always looked so fresh! And then after several years, I decided as much as I loved it, I must make a change. And guess what? I am still kicking myself to this day for selling that set.... SIGH.... Some combos are just CLASSIC!!!!
My favorite way to incorporate white into any card is to use punches. This card has several layers of not only punched paper but die cuts as well. And the plan for this design... showcase the scripture!
I layered a strip of white card stock punched on both sides with a lattice punch on top of the designer paper. The second layer consists of a sliver of that same designer paper. I then punched another strip of eyelet and added it. All of the white layers (including the Spellbinders) were lightly misted with Glimmer Mist to give it some added bling! The Scripture panel was hand cut and placed on top of two layers of dies. And the final touch included another custom dyed bow (from seam binding) and some flowers. I have become quit a fan of the custom dyed bows. They are super easy to do and I love how you can control the intensity of the look and color. Thanks so much for looking and until next time!

Mojo Monday #204 - Fullness of His Grace
Thank you to everyone who stopped by my blog earlier this week to celebrate ODBD's mid month release! Today's card was created for a sketch challenge at Mojo Monday. I decided to use the new Scrolly Borders and Scripture Se"ries 2 set for this one. As you can see, the design is a tad more contemporary than what I am used too. But that is what challenges are for, right? They get us out of our comfort zone! So here's hoping that you are having a WONDERFUL Thursday! Check back later this week as I will be giving a little blogoversary prize! I have a Spellbinders Fancy Tags set to give away! Blessings...

ODBDSLC72 - Think Tags!
Good Saturday morning to you! Tag... you're it! This weeks challenge - THINK TAGS. Add a tag- We don’t want to see just a tag, we want to see a tag added to your card or 3D project. To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a prize, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! Entries for the prize must be submitted by Friday, August 19 at 8 a.m. EST. One random winner will be chosen and announced next Saturday. If you are not using ODBD stamps, please do not enter more than once. Additional entries without using ODBD stamps will not be commented on or will they qualify for prizes.
My entry this week...
The tag base... featuring what my Sister Stick Angie calls "tag origami."
And a photo of the card after adhering a sentiment panel and embellies!
After cutting the tags out, I simply folded them to achieve a sort of pinwheel. I used double sided paper on this creation as I wanted to alternate designs. After folding each tag (eight tags), I placed them on the card. My sentiment panel uses ODBD's recent release, Flower Border and an older set, Scripture Collection 7. I used Copics to give the border a shot of color and then cut it out with Spellbinders' Labels Eighteen set! Super easy and fun to boot! Be sure to check out what the other fab challenge team ladies created... and leave 'em some love on their blogs!
Chris, Fran, Pat, Silke, Sabrina
Now here are the rules for playing along...
While it is not required to use Our Daily Bread Designs images and sentiments on your creations, we would love to see them if you have them.As a way of recognizing those who do use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing 1 to 2 creations to spotlight for our Shining the Light Award. ODBD - Stamping in Time With Betty!
It is time for the ODBD Stamping In Time Challenge(SNTODBD41)! The assignment is to use Our Daily Bread Design stamps. The challenge this rotation is embossing! Use dry or heat embossing on your cards/projects this rotation Remember, the more you play the more you increase your chance to win! We look forward to seeing what you create using ODBD stamps! Make sure to check out the ODBD blog for complete details on this challenge. And be sure to link your creation on ODBD's site using Mr. Linky.
Today's card has two types of embossing. I dry embossed one panel (stars panel) and then lightly brushed it with Versamark. I then loaded it with embossing powder taking care to shake off the excess and powered up the heat gun! I like how it left a little of the DP exposed. Kinda cool! I also dipped the silver starfish brad in Versamark and loaded it with embossing powder and heated it to match. The verse and image may be found in the ODBD Light of the World set! Thanks as always for looking and have a great day!

My Light - MOJO202
Hope all is well with you! This week has been a little wild. So I am just now posting my entry for Mojo Monday. Good thing I have until 10PM MST... (wink, wink...)
Now a funny story for your entertainment...
Hubs and son made a little jaunt to Virginia this weekend to get Michael into his new apartment. It is hard to believe that summer is almost over and he will be returning to Liberty for his second year of graduate studies. Where does the time go? So while the menfolk were out, I decided to take on a few "little" projects. I say this completely tongue in cheek as the projects I take on never seem to be "little..." I am sure you have been there too!
The boys pulled out of town Thursday afternoon. I had a hair appointment immediately after work. So after two hours of covering my gray... (yes, now you know the bitter truth...) I ventured to my local box store to buy some paint for a corner cabinet. In my mind I visualized a sophisticated black to match a few other pieces in our living room. So at 8:30 PM, nearly 30 minutes shy of my bedtime) I pick a paint chip and go to the counter to get it mixed. I was quite happy with my choice... Chimney Sweep...
For whatever reason I do not sleep well when the fellows are on the road. And Dakota's dear puppies need to be rotated every four hours. So I decided I would start the great cabinet makeover at 10PM... About midnight, I concluded I was too tired and needed to put the paintbrush up and go to bed. After analyzing the cabinet, I decided I must be EXTREMELY tired and the lighting poor as the cabinet was not quite what I had in mind. At 4AM the alarm goes off and I change the pups. I decided that I must not waste valuable time and began to paint again... By 6AM I finished and settled down to get a cup of coffee. And then the true colors of the situation dawned about 7AM... My lovely BLACK cabinet is CONFEDERATE GRAY... sigh... But hey, it looks great!!! So warning to all my dear readers... do not paint when you are tired and/or it is dark... I told hubs the hair color must have soaked my brain as I can no longer tell paint colors... lol...
Have a wonderful day!
And here is my card for this week's Mojo... No promises on matching colors...

ODBDSLC71 - Think Seamstress!
Don't you just LOVE ODBD's new stamp release, Sew Special? And this week our challenge is to think notions and/or seamstress! We are looking for stitching, buttons, seam binding, pins! Anything that follows the theme. We want details! A little ribbon or lace won't do!
To make the challenge even more fun, Kelley will be giving out a prize, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! Entries for the prize must be submitted by Thursday, August 11. One random winner will be chosen and announced next Saturday. If you are not using ODBD stamps, please do not enter more than once. Additional entries without using ODBD stamps will not be commented on or will they qualify for prizes.
While it is not required to use Our Daily Bread Designs images and sentiments on your creations, we would love to see them if you have them. As a way of recognizing those who do use ODBD stamps, we will again be choosing 1 to 2 creations to spotlight for our Shining the Light Award. In order to qualify for this award, however, you must use ODBD stamps and have your submission added to Mr. Linky by August 11 at 8 p.m. EST. If you upload your creations to Splitcoast or any other online gallery, please use the keyword is ODBDSLC71. When creating your posts on blogs please include a link to the challenge.
And here's my submission for the week...
This card was created to mimic a quilt pattern, Grandmother's Flower Garden. I used a paper punch to cut out 3 DP and then adhered them to a white card stock base. I stitched each one with my trusty sewing machine and ran the entire piece through my Cuttlebug to dry emboss. The entire "quilt" was aged with Ranger Distress Ink. You will notice a touch of paper punched lace peeking out along with some traditional lace. The scripture stamp (Sew Special Set) was highlighted with a Spellbinders die. The Pincushion Single stamp was colored with Copics and the thimble was highlighted with a sparkle glaze pen. The seam binding is a custom creation. Originally it was white but I spritzed my Scor-Pal (slick side) with water and Smooch Spritz and tossed. (Just like a salad...) The final result is a beautiful mottled pink color! Thanks as always for reading and be sure to check out the other ladies and their fabulous creations! Blessings...

A Non-traditional Sympathy Card
I struggle with sympathy cards. So this time I decided to go non-traditional. I selected ODBD's On Eagles' Wings. The design is very simple. The base is kraft with a slight layer of pattern paper under the image. I have popped this layer up to allow a bit of lace to peek out. I felt like the upper corner of the card needed a little something so I quickly punched out a circle and used the negative to mask a sun. Thanks so much for stopping by! And as always have a wonderful day!

And He Shall Be Called
What's in a name? A name tells us something about the person. A woman's maiden name tells you who their father was. A middle name (in my case Kathryn), often is a family name. In this case I was named after my mother's sister, who also shared this middle name. My last name, Ulrich, tells you I married a man with this last name. And finally, Lori, tells you my Mom and Dad decided after toying with Rachel and Lori, that this moniker won out! I'm glad! I'm not so sure I could have lived up to Rachel... lol...
Your name tells you a little about who you are and where you came from. On today's card I used a background stamp which shows the names of Jesus. He is referred to as the Lion of Judah. The Bible tells us he came from the house of Judah. He is referred to as the bridegroom. We also know he awaits his bride (the church.) The Bible refers to him as an anchor, something that grounds us and holds us firm when the storms of life are about to overtake us. Jesus is also called the Door. There is only one way to the Father and that is through Jesus. He is the Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice. The Son of God who took our punishment. And He is the Alpha and Omega. We know he was there when the earth was created and he will be there when the new earth will come. Wow! We learn so much about our Lord simply by the names the Bible gives him! He is truly the Light of the World!
Thanks so much for taking time to read and share your thoughts. Today's post was recently featured at Faithfully Yours. Blessings to you!

ODBD August Release
I am so excited about the today's new release at Our Daily Bread Designs! If you are a sewing aficionado... this collection will be for you! Make sure you check out the ODBD blog to see all the FABULOUS creations the design team have for you! The ladies have been working hard!
The designer paper came from a K & Co. paper pad I purchased earlier this spring. I had a serious distressing session! I embossed it with the Cuttlebug Script folder and then inked all the edges with Distress Ink (Antique Linen). I then took a toothbrush and flecked some Memento Rich Cocoa and Desert Sand on for added interest. The edges are stitched and I finished off by sanding some of the paper off! Whew!
The sentiment is in the new "Sew Special" set and the pincushion is a cute single stamp. ODBD will also have a handy die cut for this image. I colored the pin cushion with my trusty Copics and added a touch of Stickles to the thimble. The doily is a Cheery Lynn Designs die that will also be available on the ODBD site soon! **There are so many new goodies** I added buttons and a fab twill ribbon from my stash plus a couple of pins for fun!
See... I told ya you would love it! Until next time...
Blessings~
