Christmas ~ The Real Reason

Good morning!  Thanks for stopping in!  I have a new card to share today featuring several products from Our Daily Bread Designs' September release.  In just a few short days, Kelley will have some new products to share!  ;-)  They are beautiful!

In the meantime, I have a Christmas card to share using an ODBD die and stamp set released this month.

I wanted to use the new Decorative Corners die but do something a bit "unconventional."  So I opted to cut out the die image on the bottom of my card, back it with a dark CS and reapply the cut.  I love how it gives a bit of added dimension.  In order to have the cross, we had to have the Savior's birth...  the cross serves as a visual reminder of the tremendous sacrifice he made.

The stamped image was colored with Copics, hand cut and added to the top with dimensional foam.  The sentiment from the Jingle Bells set is embossed on another die cut.

Here's the products I used...

WAW99 ~ The Lord is God ~

Welcome!  It's time for another fabulous challenge at Word Art Wednesday.  Check out the WAW site for all the details including this week's digital scripture image, how to link your creation AND info on our fabulous prizes!

A special thank you to both My Craft Spot By Kimberly and Deedee's Digis for providing prizes for this week's challenge!

This week we feature Psalm 100:3 and a wonderful image from one of our sponsors, Deedee's Digis...

This week, I chose a scarecrow digi for my focal panel using a sketch for the design.  A double layer of matting (kraft and dark brown) make up the base.  I used coordinating designer papers for the main layer and two perpendicular coordinating DP strips under the image.  I created a double bow with twine and crinkled yellow seem binding and added a dark brown button.  This accents the focal scripture at the bottom.  Thanks for looking!  I pray you are having a wonderful week!

  Blessings...

Exploring Cricut ~ What's Cooking Challenge ~

Welcome to the bi-weekly challenge at Exploring Cricut

This week our theme is to...

create a card, layout or paper craft with something from the kitchen...  etc. Recipe book, cards, or anything kitchen related...

Here's my project featuring the old standby cartridge Preserves, From My Kitchen and the Cricut Craft Room...

I decided to put together a few family recipes to hand down later on.  This jam cake recipe is one my mother is famous for.  We always had it at Christmas time with homemade caramel icing.  Yum!

I chose the blackberry image and words to weld together.  The recipe card can be found on the Preserves cart.  I scanned the original recipe (my handwriting) and trimmed it down to add.

Measurements

12 x 12

recipe card 8.5 x 6
word jam 3 x 1.833
word cake 3.5 x 1.5
blackberry image 1.75 x 2.319

A Special Tribute ~ Ike ~

Good morning and welcome!  If you read my blog on a regular basis or just stop by to browse on occasion you probably know why I use the moniker Saintsrule.  The name comes from the fact that I have 4 St. Bernards, Ike, Dakota, Morgan and Reagan.  On Wednesday, September 18, my big brood became a little smaller.  Our gentle giant and all around big guy Ike passed on.  His death was the result of a horrible accident.  He had consumed something that twisted in his stomach, damaged his small intestines and ultimately set up an infection in his body.  In the end, surgery on our precious boy could not save him, even with the valiant attempts of a tenacious vet.  He took time to investigate and find the root cause when others had pushed us aside.   We lost him entirely too soon… just shy of his 7th birthday…
Ike was a special boy.  As large as he was, (180+ pounds in his prime) he never moved in a threatening way toward people.  Even when he was so sick and being prodded in so many ways he kept his good nature.  His sad eyes never ceased to cut straight to my heart.  Even as a young pup he knew how to work his mommy, whether it be for warm hard boiled eggs, a piece of cheese or a belly rub.

He came from the great state of Kansas.  My husband and I went there in November of 2006 to pick our new boy up.  His former family came from an area near Abilene, Kansas, home of United States President, Dwight Eisenhower.  Soon our sweet little monk capped Saint had his name, Ike.

We brought him home to meet his new friends, Dakota and Morgan.  Both were immediately “smitten” with the new pup.  They allowed him to chew on their ears and tails for hours at a time.  When it snowed that first winter, they all jumped and played in the yard.  I saw our Ikie do his first St. Bernard dance, a routine we affectionately came to label "cavorting."  Ike continued to "cavort" until the day he died.
There were some tough times.  As gentle as Ike could be with people he had a deep desire to be a “varmit dog.”  Unfortunately in the beginning we lost a few lambs to his jaws.  He didn’t understand why they wouldn’t play the way he wanted to.
Even with those trials, we loved him.  And he loved us.  A week ago Thursday, I came home to find my big Ike obviously in pain resting on his side.  He loved to have his belly rubbed.  So I plopped my middle aged body down on the concrete sidewalk and rubbed his belly.  He wrapped his big paw around my arm as he often did and we stayed there, me flat on my back rubbing his belly, for quite a while.  So long in fact, that I nearly couldn’t get up!  But that precious memory remains of me comforting him AND him comforting me.  Somehow, we both knew that our time was limited.  We said our goodbyes before we really knew goodbyes had to be said...  It was a true gift from God.
Some people make the argument that animals are not in heaven.  I read a book recently by Randy Alcorn, entitled, Heaven.  He makes some interesting points on this subject.  He maintains animals will not be resurrected as born again believers will, but by the mercy of God he will recreate some of the animals that hold a special place in our heart.   If that is the case, I know my Ikie will be there with me.  He was a blessing in so many ways.  And heaven wouldn't be the same without him or my Saints.  Thank you and  God bless.

Exploring Cricut ~ Love U ~

Welcome!  So glad you could stop by!  Today I have a card with a bit of a modern approach.  I love all the clean looking designs I see everywhere.  So I decided to try my hand at it!  I used Cricut Craft Room to create a negative base (circles cut at 1 inch) and trimmed it to fit my base.  This card is 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

I cut a heart ourtof DP at 1.75 inches and added dimensional foam to make it pop above the brick panel.  The bubble is 2 inches with a letter U cut at 1 inch also.  Very clean and simple but it gets the point across.  Hope my hubby likes it!  Thanks for stopping by!  Don't forget to join us at Exploring Cricut Monday for our next biweekly challenge!  It will be fun!

WAW98 ~ My Refuge ~ Psalm 91:1-2 ~

Welcome!  It's time for more precious scripture and a fabulous challenge at Word Art Wednesday .  Check out the WAW site for all the details including this week's digital scripture image, how to link your creation AND info on our fabulous prizes!

A special thank you to both The Scrapping Center and a returning sponsor, Diane's Daydream Designs for providing prizes for this week's challenge!

This week we feature Psalm 91:1-2...

I printed my sentiment on designer paper and used an office supply style die to cut and emboss it.  I distress the edges to give it more of a notebook feel.  The images (branch and owl) are from Diane's Daydream Designs.  Aren't they darling???  I printed the owl out twice and cut the wings out and popped them up with dimensional foam.  Super cute!

Please keep our dear leader, Karen, in your prayers as she is rehabilitating!  We love ya, Karen!  {{hugs}}

North Coast Creations September Release

Welcome to the North Coast Creations September New Releases!  The North Coast Creations crew will be choosing 2 winners who will receive a $10 gift certificate to the store for stamps just for commenting on the Design Team cards! You have until September 17, 2013 at 10:00PM EDT to make a comment on each of our designers blog posts.  Our 2 random winners will be announced here on the blog on September 18, 2013.

So let's dive in with a couple of project I have to share today using two of the new sets, Santa's Sleigh and Old Fashioned Santa.

First Santa's Sleigh...

I colored this darling image with Copics and added glitter glue to all of the "packages" for added bling.  A rich red bow and black jet beads accent the black and white matting I used.

and then Old Fashioned Santa with more of a vintage feel...

I also colored this image with Copics and lightly dusted the edge with distress ink.  The sentiment was embossed with a steel gray embossing powder.  I added lace and seam binding along with buttons and decorative pins for interest.  I wanted it to feel like bits of sewing scraps and ephemera.

Both sets are just darling and a dream to color!  Plus they are packed with cute sentiments for all of your project needs.  Here they are...

Don't forget to visit the Coasters' blogs, as listed below, to comment on all of the DT's cards! Winners will be chosen at random from the comments on the design team blogs.

The Apple of God's Eye

Another week is almost over!  Hard to believe that the kids are back in school and fall is in the air.  Over the last few weeks, I have had the distinct honor of sharing some of the new sets at Our Daily Bread Designs .  If you are a regular reader, you know how much I LOVE the new apple set!  This time I colored those delightful gems red and added a fun new die from ODBD as well!

This time I chose a rich red card stock base and added a kraft layer.  The dies are the new Decorative Corner Dies.  I cut/embossed 2 and added them to the top and bottom of my card for added architectural drama!

I stamped the image from the new Apples set on Copic compatible paper before coloring.  After coloring the image, I sponged light blue ink around it to mimic sky and die cut it.  I stamped the sentiment on plain white card stock and hand cut it to create a banner.  I wanted it to look like it was propped in the bushel container!  This is one of my favorite sets this month!  I just love coloring this image!  So fun!

MOJO310 ~ Wishing You A Merry Christmas ~

Good morning!  Hope this post finds you well!  There is a terrible "bug" roaming our part of the country and unfortunately several friends are suffering.  It sure seems like the flu is starting early, IF that's what it is.  Doesn't bode well for the rest of fall and winter!  I will keep taking my Vitamin C and praying for the good Lord's mercies!  And if it happens...  just take it in stride, right?
We live our lives as a witness of His amazing grace!  And if we grumble and complain, what kind of message are we sending?  Life it tough but our Savior is tougher!  He took on the devil for us and won!  So why be afraid?

Christmas will be here soon.  Another glorious season to celebrate our Savior's birth...  I am definitely trying to get ahead of the game and get some cards made!  I am sharing another card using the tissue stamping technique.  I modified it a bit by applying the inks directly to an embossing folder.  I then ran my paper through and got a wonderful mottled effect.  I used two layers on this card using three rich buttery ink tones...

You will need one facial tissue for each ink color.  I used three shades of a rich yellow.  Scrunch your tissue up and apply it to the ink pad.  Then pounce it on your embossing folder.  Use a new tissue for each color until you get the desired depth of coverage you want.  Then lightly "huff" on the folder to reactivate the ink and place your card stock inside.  Run it through your embossing machine and VOILA!  You have texture and unique coloring!

I embossed my sentiment (Ranger's gold embossing powder) on the focal panel.  This time I used a sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs.  This one can be found in the new set, Holly Wreath shown here....

Isn't it just darling?  I love, love, love this image too!  I have a beautiful colored image on my desk begging to be placed on a card!  Keep your eyes peeled!  I hope to show that one soon too!  :-)

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I always appreciate your lovely comments!  They encourage me so!  {{hugs}}

WAW97 ~ Colossians 4:6 ~ Seasoned With Salt

Welcome!  It's time for some beautiful scripture and a creative challenge at Word Art Wednesday .  Check out the WAW site for all the details including this week's digital scripture image, how to link your creation AND info on our fabulous prizes!

A special thank you to both Nice Crane Designs and Digi Darla's
 for sponsoring this week's challenge!

This week we feature Colossians 4:6...

This week I decided to incorporate a technique challenge.  For this one I used facial tissue.  I used three shades of green ink, scrunching up a facial tissue, dipping in each ink from light to dark and lightly sponging on white card stock.  Make sure you use a separate tissue for each color.  That way your ink colors stay true and give the paper a nice mottled effect.  I layered the card with white and 2 shades of coordinating green card stock.  I printed this week's scripture on white paper and layered it with the darker green paper.  A few graduated green pearls adorn the top left hand corner.  I just love the look!

Thank you for stopping by!

I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to remember those who died on September 11, 2001 and September 11, 2012.  May we always remember!

God Bless America!

WT443 ~ The Smallest Seed ~

Good morning!  I'm so happy you could stop by!  Today, I have a challenge card to share.  The weekly Ways To Use It challenge at Splitcoast features honey.  I had no idea it is National Honey Month!  I love honey and eat it any chance I get.  I found out just recently that honey can taste different in various regions of the country.  Apparently, the flowers/pollens available in a geographic area determine the taste of the honey!  How cool is that?  Does that mean a top notch scientist can determine where a particular honey comes from by analyzing its makeup?  Hmmmm...  If anyone knows the answer, I would LOVE to know!!!!

While I wait for the answer, I will share a fun "bee"utiful card!  Sorry!  I just had to do that!  :-)  Can you "bee"live it?  STOP!!!!!

The card base is yellow card stock with a layer of black.  I embossed the top and bottom of my sentiment panel with a honeycomb EF.  The tiny "bee" is an image stamped from Our Daily Bread Designs' Simple Things set.  I fussy cut it and added it directly to the panel with dimensional foam.  A bit of glitter glue added to his wings finishes him off.  Super easy!

Exploring Cricut ~ Back to School Challenge ~

Welcome to the bi-weekly challenge at Exploring Cricut

This week our theme...

Back to School
using the colors red, green, white,
black, orange, yellow AND include one ribbon

Here's my project featuring the old standby cartridge George and the Cricut Craft Room...

I cut multiple rectangles skewing them to create a partial chevron pattern.  2 inch hearts from the same cart make up my blossom.  A bit of left over green ribbon becomes useful when used as faux leaves.  I used the Craft Room to create my title, welding the letters and numbers together.  This layout was designed for a 5 x 7 photo.  I can't wait to put my grandson's photo on here!

  Thanks for visiting!

Exploring Cricut ~ Custom Luminary ~

Welcome!  So glad you could stop by!  I am SO excited to be rejoining the Exploring Cricut team!  Diane and company always have some of the best projects to share!  I certainly hope I can share a little something with all of the Cricut fans out there!

This week I have a custom luminary project I created for a very special event this summer.  My step-son married a lovely lady a few months ago.  One of the things she wanted for the reception was a customized luminary set similar to those she spied on Pinterest.  The ones she saw were created with white lunch bags and were so complicated that she gave up entirely on the project.  Her husband to be came to me the day before and asked if I would be willing to "take on the project" as a surprise for her.  After pondering the whole lunch bag idea and scouring Pinterest, I decided my trusty Cricut would do a fine job.  A few adjustments to my original plan and I came up with these...

and a shot of them with the happy couple...

The best part???  They are really easy to make!  I ran to the store the morning of and had everything I needed to create them!  The only thing that might be challenging...  the votives and tealights!

Your list of supplies...

White Card Stock
Vellum
Strong Adhesive ( I used my ATG gun)
Scor-Pal
Cricut Cartridge - Doodletype  (Make sure to pick a font that will be easy to adhere.  Keep in mind any "floating letter components" will have to be glued to the vellum...)
Cricut Craft Room

For each luminary, you will need an 8 1/2 inch by 6 inch piece of cardstock.

Score at 1/4 inch and 5 1/2 inches

Place each piece of card stock on your mat and using Cricut Craft Room center your starting point at 4x6 inches

Cut each letter the desired height.  (I used 4 inches for this project.)

Cut one piece of vellum for each luminary (8 in x 4 1/2 in)

Adhere vellum behind cut out letter.  Make sure to place any "floating" parts of letter with adhesive.

Fold at score points and adhere to create luminary.

Place small glass votive inside with battery operated or candle tealight.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks for stopping by!  Come back Monday to check out our next Exploring Cricut challenge!

MOJO309 ~ Green Apples ~

This time of year, my mind turns to apples.  Apple cider, apple pie, apple turnovers...  YUM!!!  Nothing says Fall like a trip to the apple orchard!  Granny Smiths are one of my personal favs.  Not everyone likes their tart taste.  I recognize I am in the minority here.  So to honor my favorite fruit I colored these gems green!

and the sketch that inspired it all...

I chose an apple green card stock and kraft paper for my matting.  I colored the image with Copics and highlighted each "apple" with a white gel pen.  I sponged a soft blue ink on the background to mimic sky.  I added a die cut sentiment with just a touch of jute for a rustic touch.

Now I want some pie and ice cream!  :-)

Thanks for stopping by!

A special thank you to both Jelly Park  and Verve Stamps

This week we feature Isaiah 40:31...

This scripture was so timely this week.  I have been struggling with printer issues (thanks to dear hubs for taking SO much time fixing it...)...  The devil has been working overtime for sure!  But when you have God on your side, nothing else really matters.  Right??

I printed the scripture on card stock before cutting with Spellbinders' Labels Seventeen.  I cut another layer (orange) and split it in half before adhering to the back.  It gives it a nice shadow look.  I embossed the DP (a DCWV pack) with a floral EF and added some paper punched leaves and cloth sunflower.  I just had to pull out some fall colors!  Love 'em!  Thanks for stopping by!

Our Daily Bread Designs' September Release

Welcome to the ODBD September New Release!

Kelley will be choosing one random winner from one of the designers blog comments to receive a $50 Gift Certificate to the ODBD Store to be used towards the purchase of stamps!  Now who couldn't use more ODBD stamps?????  You have until September 3rd, 2013 at 9:00pm EST to leave your comments on the designers blogs.  The winner will be posted on the ODBD Blog on September 4th, so be sure to check back to see if you have won.  :-)

I have two cards today featuring this fabulous new release!

The first uses a new set called Jingle Bells...

shown here....

Isn't this image just amazing when colored?  I used Copics to color it and lightly sponged blue ink around it to create a faux sky.  A touch of glitter glue brightens up the snow while layers of red and green card stock make the white die cut layers pop.  I stamped a coordinating sentiment from this set on white card stock and used a ribbon die cut to highlight it.  I nestled it on the bottom so you could see the entire image.  This image is so realistic!  I believe I can even hear those bells ringing!

And my second card today features another fabulous set, Holly Wreath...

shown here...

I just had to color this amazing image with Copics as well!  I colored each leaf to mimic holly with light green edges by layering a yellow green ink first, then a medium tone and finally a dark green in the center.  I then went back over each with the lightest color to blend.  I used a white gel pen to add subtle highlights on the berries.  This image is amazing!  A couple of gold bells added at the top add just the perfect touch.  I embossed the sentiment with gold to match the real jingle bells.

And a few sneek peeks I have shared this week...

this one using  Jingle Bells

and this one using Apples

shown here...

I just love them all!  Don't you?  Now I have Christmas carols running through my head...

Anyone else ready to start their Christmas card stash????
