MOJO 482 ~ Love is Not What You Say ~

It used to drive me crazy when my husband would insist "love isn't a feeling, but an action."  I just could not for the life of me understand what he was trying to tell me.  As a young, insecure newly married woman, I thought my hubby should shower me with "I Love Yous" at every available moment.  As I have grown older and potentially wiser...  I finally think I understand.  Some people are better at showing how much they love you versus saying it.  And honestly, I believe the words "I Love You" have become so over used that when they are spoken...  well...  they lose their meaning.  How many of us say we "love" a new outfit, our new hairdo or the latest ice cream flavor?  Love is much deeper than that...  not something that two characters on a television show say 15 minutes into an hour program because they "just know."  Life and love is much messier...  more complicated and just plain confusing sometimes!  I often wonder how I even survived my late teens and early twenties.  We aren't equipped to really "know" what love is unless we have an intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He loved us passionately.  So passionately that He gave His life for us.  Did he have reservations?  The Bible tells us he cried out to His heavenly Father asking if the cup could be taken from him.  He was so stressed that he sweat drops of blood.  That is the kind of love He gave to us and the kind we should model.   Self sacrificing...  thinking of others...  and loving with all we have.

WAW166 & MOJO379 ~ Psalm 143:8 ~

It's time for another fabulous, fun and inspirational challenge

Be sure to check out the Word Art Wednesday site for all of the details including this week's digital scripture, how to link your creation AND info on some fabulous prizes!

We appreciate our sponsor's generosity so very much!  Please take a few moments to thank those who provided our prizes this week!

This week we have a powerful verse from the book of Psalms...

Today's card incorporates a sketch from Mojo Monday.  I used an ecru card stock for the base and embossed layer.  I also printed this week's scripture on ecru as well.  I framed each vintage panel (Prima's Stationer's Desk Paper Pad) with a rich red card stock.  A fun buffalo check ribbon and button finish it off.

Here's the sketch...

Thanks for stopping by!  Hoping you have a wonderful day!

Blessings...

MOJO272 & TSTR145 ~ God's Gift ~

Good morning!  Hope this post finds everyone well.  I'm spending the next few days trying to get my house in order...  literally!  This holiday season has been a hectic one.  I decided a few months back I WOULD NOT stress so much about the holidays.  I think it has backfired unfortunately!  My nonchalance has proved chaotic...  lol...

Normally we put up a live tree up the day after Thanksgiving.  Due to health issues and prior commitments I was unable to get my tree until December 5th.  My husband brought it in and placed it in the tree stand.  I however, had zero extra time...  so my poor tree remained in the stand until the next day before I gave a half hearted attempt at putting lights on it.  And when I say half hearted...  well...  it looked pretty sad...  lol...  So on December 12th, I FINALLY placed ornaments on my tree after rearranging the lights.  On December 19th I discovered TWO additional cardboard boxes full of ornaments ONLY after I wondered what had happened to ONE specific ornament.  **sigh**

I think I have my tree in order just in time to take it down...  :-)

However, I have worked on cards.  Today I have one for this week's Mojo Monday and Shabby Tea Room Challenges.

The card...

Using Our Daily Bread Designs' recent releases Sparkling Snowflakes, Snowflake Sentiments and Spellbinder Snowflake Die Snowflake Die.

I used a watermark ink to stamp three snowflakes on white card stock and embossed them with silver powder.  I used the snowflake die to cut each one out and added them with dimensional foam to the focal panel.  A bit of pink seam binding adds a cut ebow with some glittered up jingle bells.  I tucked my sentiment in front of one of the snowflakes.

Thanks for stopping by and spending some time with me.  Until next time...  blessings...

MOJO271 & TSTR144 ~ Winter's Night ~

It is a cold winter's day as I write this post, both outside and in my heart.  The terrible events of Friday have chilled me to my very bone.  I have heard the word "evil" used repeatedly in the last 48 hours.  Scripture says...

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."  Ephesians 6:12

This very card was on my craft table waiting to be photographed and blogged...

I created this card with a couple of challenges in mind including The Shabby Tea Room and Mojo Monday.  I opted to use some blossoms on this winter card to symbolize how God's spirit can warm even the darkest of nights.  No matter the depth of evil, God is there.  He can shine his warmth into the darkest of places.

There is a die cut panel nestled under the sentiment panel with a bit of ecru holly.  The stamps are by Our Daily Bread Designs and may be found in their December release.  Thanks for stopping in!

A few additional thoughts...

Do we live in a broken and dying world?  Yes.

Why is the world this way?

We live in a fallen world.  Before Adam's rebellion, the world was perfect.  God made it that way...  no death, no illness, NO SIN...  When Adam and Eve chose to disobey God, they were cast out for fear they would eat fruit from the tree of life.  The fruit would allow them to live forever.  God loved his creation so much that he knew it was impossible for them to live forever in such a broken form.  He made a way.

Well, I'm a good person.  I give money to charities and help my neighbors.  I don't really sin...  I follow the ten commandments as best I can.  I haven't done anything that bad....

Being a "good person" won't cut it.  You can follow all of the commandments, follow the golden rule and still not be "good enough."  Sin is sin and according to God's law deserves corporal punishment.

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23

I know I am a sinner.  I want to be right with God.  I want to know I will go to Heaven if something happens to me.  What do I do?

It starts with  you.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."  Romans 10:9-10

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."  Romans 10:13

It's that easy.  Admit that you are a sinner.  Know that you will never be "good enough."   God loved us so much that he created a way for us to be redeemed.  He sent his son, Jesus, to die for our sins.  He suffered a horrible punishment, one that you and I deserved.  But it doesn't end there.  Christ defeated death by rising from the grave on the 3rd day.  He overcame the Devil and made a way for us to be with our heavenly Father eternally.  CONFESS that you are a sinner and accept Jesus as your Savior.

Thank you for allowing me to share my heart today!  Hugs and blessings...

MOJO263 ~ Just Because, Shabby Style ~

I must confess my craft table is a mess!  I am frantically working to clear up some projects and as a result my craft table looks...  well loved???  lol...  I firmly believe a messy craft table must indicate a creative mind...  ***please don't burst my bubble dear friends***  :-)

Today I am sharing my take on the Mojo Monday sketch...

and my interpretation...

I created the flower by stamping multiple images (from Verve's Great Friend set) on designer paper and hand cutting each one out. I then used a stylus to curl and cup each layer and nestled them together with some glue. I placed a pearl brad in the middle to adorn and attach all layers. The greenery may also be found in the Great Friend set. I used a Close To My Heart ink and hand cut each before adhering as desired. The circle is actually a Spellbinder die I cut, embossed and embellished with pearls before placing behind the panel. The main panel has also been distressed, inked and embossed for added interest. The measuring tape is actually an embellie by Maya Road I picked up recently. Isn't it cute? Thanks so much for stopping by! Will be back soon with more fun projects to share! Hugs and blessings...

I know... extremely frilly and over the top! See what happens when I make myself create something! Still not sure how I feel about it but was determined to share...

IBSIC21 ~ What a Thrill!

What a thrill!  Recently, Joanna Munster with Inspired by Stamping asked me to fill a guest design spot for a week.  After I pulled my jaw up off the floor, I happily accepted.  If you haven't had a chance to check out the fab lines of stamps and embellies she has please do.  They are so much fun to create with!

So what is the challenge this week? Joanna wants to see pinks yellows and greens as shown is this week's inspiration photo....

And here's my interpretation also incorporating the weekly Mojo sketch...

And the sketch that inspired it...

What fun! Thanks Joanna for letting me have a chance to play along! Please visit Joanna's Inspired by Stamping Inspiration Challenge blog for all the fun details! And thanks for stopping by!

MOJO252 & WAW39 ~ Angry Waves

I am always amazed by the Biblical account of Jesus calling to Peter to join him while he walked on the angry waves. At first all went well, but then Peter began to sink in his own doubt. Jesus, realizing the frailty of Peter, reached out to grab him and rescued him from the sea.

This week, there were some angry waves at the Ulrich household. Sunday my fellows took off to Lynchburg, Virginia to move our youngest into his apartment at school. Monday evening my Mother decided to come stay with me. Her home is literally a few steps from mine. After arriving at my door she began to worry about her dog and we hopped on the golf cart to let Sara out. Sara was excited and refused to let my Mother get on the golf cart without her. Mom insisted on walking to my house. I began to turn the golf cart around and heard my Mother scream. Somehow Sara and one of my dogs had managed to knock my poor 75 year old Mother to the ground. And the worst part, I saw a grotesque and misshapen mess where her foot had been. I quickly restored all animals to their pens and assessed the situation.  Mom was unable to put any weight on her foot.  It was obviously badly broken.

God sent many angels to us that night. Within a few moments of calling 911, local first responders were there. A few in fact are members of my church family. They made my Mom comfortable until the ambulance arrived. Then the ambulance arrived with people I knew. It was like God sent every person he could think of to give us both peace of mind that night! It was truly awesome!

After several hours in the ER Mom was transferred to Lexington. The break was bad enough that nothing could be done locally. We left that night at 9:45PM and did not return until Tuesday at noon. She will return this week to determine if surgery will be necessary. It was a terrible night, watching my Mother scream in pain, driving to Lexington at 3AM in the morning and signing papers turning my Mother's care over to strangers. But I wasn't alone. Jesus was right there with me. Praise God he was there to throw me that lifeline.

Thanks as always...

MOJO245 ~ Stand Firm ~

Things have been busy around the Ulrich household.  Unfortunately my Cricut is still MIA...  Let's NOT talk about that...  LOL...  So in the meantime I am making due with the help of some dear friends and a massive collection of stamps!

This is the second post for me today.  Today is the first chance I have had to work on the Mojo Monday sketch challenge.  So at the risk of boring you to death today, I am posting something else.  Here's the sketch...

And here's my attempt...

I used coordinating papers from the Be Amazing Collection by My Mind's Eye. The stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs may be found in the Not Forgotten set.  The flower is a happy creation I came upon while reading another blog, Clare's Creations. Clare Buswell has this fabulous tutorial on how to make paper carnations. Unfortunately, I do not own the Sizzix die she referred to in the video but I improvised! I pulled out a 5 petal paper punch by Stampin' Up and went to work. I followed her instructions to the letter with the exception of the paper punch.  I really like how it turned out! Be sure to check out the link to her blog above for the details! Thanks for stopping by! Blessings...

MOJO244 ~ Great Love ~

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! My Mom and I had the opportunity to share some quality time together. We live close to US 68 a state route which runs from Maysville, Kentucky south. The first weekend in June there is a 400 mile yard sale along this route. Saturday we took some time to check out about 60 miles of it. We found some treasures (my fav was an old St. Bernard print in a mahogany frame). But most importantly, we had some special time together. We had a chance to chat and catch up. Isn't it grand being an adult? I think we appreciate our parents so much more!

As we traveled along, my mom was reminded of a yard sale excursion she and my Dad made many years ago. She relived all of their finds and told me about this beautiful bowl my Dad had found. She asked me what happened to that bowl. Well, I couldn't for the life of me remember a thing about a bowl! The more we discussed it, she remembered that I was fairly young and would not have been with them. She told me how they stopped to browse for a few minutes and Dad found a beautiful pressed glass bowl. He excitedly exclaimed, "Chick would like that!" (Chick was the pet name he called me.) So he hurried over to pay for it. Well after getting home Mom packed the bowl away safe and sound. I grew up, graduated from high school and then college. I married, moved several times, divorced and married again. The whole time I knew nothing of the existence of the bowl. And in 1996 I lost Daddy to cancer. Sixteen years later as I type this, I find myself welling up. Somehow you never get over it... you just learn to live with it...

Tonight, I stopped by to see my Mom. And she had a surprise for me! She presented me with the bowl. As I held that bowl in my hands and felt the grooves, I thought of Daddy holding that in his big calloused hands so long ago. I thought of him seeking it out to give to me, knowing THAT one day I would LOVE that bowl. When he bought the bowl, I was in Middle School and not the least bit interested in "old stuff." But how well he knew his daughter! Because these days as a middle age woman I prowl antique shops and yard sales to find "antiques." I am definitely a Daddy's girl! It's amazing... it's a gift 30 years in the making... but somehow even sweeter... It's a testament to a great love...

And my interpretation...

MOJO231, TSTR104 & CLD18 ~ The Storm

Happy Thursday! I hope you and yours are doing well! Thought I would pop in to share a card I put together for this week's Mojo Monday sketch. I also took the opportunity to play along at The Shabby Tea Room.

Here's the Mojo sketch...

And here's The Shabby Tea Room inspiration photo, Colorful Confections...

And here's my interpretation...

I created the base with some lovely bubblegum colored card stock and added a distressed layer of white Colorbok paper. I then added a layer of embossed Lily Bee Designs designer paper. The doily is a die cut by Cheery Lynn Designs. I added a few pearls for added pizzazz. The stamp is from Our Daily Bread Designs set, The Sea. I stamped it on white card stock and cut it using ODBD's Tag die. The mossy green flourish is also a Cheery Lynn Designs die that I cut and placed behind a fun Prima rose. It's so sweet, it makes my teeth hurt! lol... Thanks so much for stopping in and until next time...

Mojo Monday - Grow in Grace

I'm taking one final day to wind down before returning to work. John and I spent some quality time visiting with the kids this weekend. Michael left late this afternoon... so now I am taking some time for me... And you know what that means! Projects!!!! I can't believe how many projects I have completed over the last few days! I think the forced crafting sabbatical sparked my creativity!

Today's card is for Mojo Monday. I found this paper pad recently online and decided to order. I had never heard of the company but liked the looks of it and decided to commit. Boy, am I ever glad I did! The paper is SO rich! And this project required very little extras from me. I just let the DP do the work! LOVE IT!!! Thanks so much for taking a few minutes to hang out with me and I hope you are having a wonderful day!

Blessings...

Zip It Up!

Recently I spotted a rose on a scrapbook layout. After taking a closer look I realized it was a zipper! So the wheels started turning... **And yes, that creaking noise comes from my brain**... I purchased a zipper at a discount store and separated it into two parts. I did not realize until after the fact you can purchase zipper binding at craft stores. Since the nearest one is over an hour away, this little baby had to do! I then used a circle punch to cut out a card stock base. I then wrapped the zipper to form a rose using a hot glue gun. I tried Scor-tape originally but the zipper was not pliable enough and did not hold. Hot glue works MUCH better! Now I'm thinking about all sorts of places I can zip it up! Blessings...

My Light - MOJO202

Hope all is well with you! This week has been a little wild. So I am just now posting my entry for Mojo Monday. Good thing I have until 10PM MST... (wink, wink...)

Now a funny story for your entertainment...

Hubs and son made a little jaunt to Virginia this weekend to get Michael into his new apartment. It is hard to believe that summer is almost over and he will be returning to Liberty for his second year of graduate studies. Where does the time go? So while the menfolk were out, I decided to take on a few "little" projects. I say this completely tongue in cheek as the projects I take on never seem to be "little..." I am sure you have been there too!

The boys pulled out of town Thursday afternoon. I had a hair appointment immediately after work. So after two hours of covering my gray... (yes, now you know the bitter truth...) I ventured to my local box store to buy some paint for a corner cabinet. In my mind I visualized a sophisticated black to match a few other pieces in our living room. So at 8:30 PM, nearly 30 minutes shy of my bedtime) I pick a paint chip and go to the counter to get it mixed. I was quite happy with my choice... Chimney Sweep...

For whatever reason I do not sleep well when the fellows are on the road. And Dakota's dear puppies need to be rotated every four hours. So I decided I would start the great cabinet makeover at 10PM... About midnight, I concluded I was too tired and needed to put the paintbrush up and go to bed. After analyzing the cabinet, I decided I must be EXTREMELY tired and the lighting poor as the cabinet was not quite what I had in mind. At 4AM the alarm goes off and I change the pups. I decided that I must not waste valuable time and began to paint again... By 6AM I finished and settled down to get a cup of coffee. And then the true colors of the situation dawned about 7AM... My lovely BLACK cabinet is CONFEDERATE GRAY... sigh... But hey, it looks great!!! So warning to all my dear readers... do not paint when you are tired and/or it is dark... I told hubs the hair color must have soaked my brain as I can no longer tell paint colors... lol...

Have a wonderful day!

And here is my card for this week's Mojo... No promises on matching colors...

Where's my mojo??

I've lost it! I don't know where I put it... I think the 100 plus temps have fried it... I can't even speculate... Boy, I sure hope it comes back soon! It seems like everything I work on lately is a struggle. I shuffle paper here and there... tear cards apart... start over... Whew! I know God has a lesson for me here! Lord, please give me the strength to get it!

I have attached today's card for this week's Mojo Monday challenge below!

The background is actually a cut from my new Cricut cartridge, Elegant Edges. I then cut a small bit of ivory card stock and embossed it. I framed the sentiment and popped it up with dimensional foam on top of the embossed panel. I used a paper edger to cut a design and then left it slightly peeking out on the bottom! The brads are from a trip to Hobby Lobby! They have a gold shimmer to them! Super fun! Thanks for looking and I look forward to seeing you again!
