Paper Cutz Challenge #76

Remember the crop I was so excited about? I went and hung out for 6 hours. And when I mean hang out, I mean hang out... I got absolutely nothing done! lol... I was in some sort of creative fog. I hope I am not the only one who exhausts all of their creative ideas sometimes! I started to color an image... hated it and gave up... I started to do a scrapbook page and realized the color scheme I wanted to use wasn't working...

By this time lunch had rolled around. I was convinced that a slice or two of pizza would clear the cobwebs! Oh, no! Then I got sleepy... So I finally gave up and just watched other people create! Sadly, I packed up after a very unproductive 6 hours and went home... :-(

I loved seeing everyone but boy, I wish I had something to show for it!

Sunday proved to be a restful day for me. Thankfully I needed that. Late last night I whipped out the Cricut and pulled this card together. I entered it in this week's Paper Cutz challenge HERE. Maybe the funk is over? Or maybe not...

Blessings

Composition 101

A few months back I purchased a plain composition book. My intent was to create a book to keep various notes about Christmas shopping, recipes, etc. within reach. So here it is close to February and did the composition book get whipped into Christmas organization central? NO... lol... SO I went to plan B. I created a prayer journal. I hope to give this to our oldest granddaughter this Easter. She will be turning thirteen later this year. Hopefully this journal will give her a place to record her thoughts. It was a relatively simple project and could be modifed to suit any special occasion you might have. Have fun with Composition 101!

Blessings -

Lori

You will need a plain composition book. (Make sure it is the kind that is bound like a book.) This one cost $1.00 at our grocery store!

7 X 10 1/2 inches of designer paper (2 pieces) to cover the outside of your book
Score roughly at 3/4 in from top and bottom to make it easier to adhere to your book. Don't worry as the paper will not go to the binding. We will cover it with the next two pieces!

Adhere the designer paper to the covers taking care to fold and adhere top and bottom first and then the side you would open. Scor Tape is a must for this part!

Next....

5 x 9 11/16 in piece of card stock (my example, pink) 1 piece scored at 2 1/2 in
4 x 9 11/16 in piece of card stock (my example, kraft) 1 piece scored at 2 in

I embellished the pink card stock before adhering with a Martha Stewart Punch. I then aligned the scored point on the center of the binding and adhered. For this project I used Scor Tape. I can't stress enough the importance of a sturdy adhesive!

Then adhere the kraft card stock on, again placing the scored point on the center of the binding.

The inside covers were then covered with 2 - 7 x 9 1/2 in pieces of card stock to cover the seams. I embellished this with ribbon from Stampin Up and then created a tab in the back to slide a pen into.

Psalm 36:5

"Your love O Lord reaches to the heavens and your faithfulness to the skies."

Psalm 36:5

Wow, what a wild couple of days! As I write this I am listening to coverage of the unrest in Egypt. What a terrible reality of the fallen world we live in! But our heavenly father's love is boundless. No matter what, those who trust in Him have the assurance we will see Him one day. Blessings to you and yours!

A Breath of Fresh Air

Do you remember fashion trends? I remember when shaker knit sweaters and leggings were in... Yes... serious eighties child here... lol....

For some reason certain color combos stick with me. About 8 years ago lime green and pink made a big splash in the fashion world. I got onboard and bought a cute fabric purse very similar to the paper in today's card. I love the crispness of the look. The color combo reminds me of spring. And gracious knows, we can use some bright colors on these dreary winter days!

I colored the Tilda image over a year ago and unfortunately did not write the color combos down. (I am trying to use up some of the images I have stashed!) Look for a few more over the coming days without color info. Hope you enjoy a little breath of fresh air and be sure to breathe some new life into your crafting this week! Shake it up and use some new color combos. It might be just the lift you need. Blessings!

My Heart is Yours

Love is in the air! Everywhere I go I see those wonderful heart shaped boxes full of candy! Nothing warms my heart like a big box of chocolates! Almost sounds like a Forrest Gump moment... lol...

But what woman doesn't love to get flowers and chocolates from her sweety? John, if you're reading this I am particularly fond of chocolate covered caramels... :-)
And truthfully, I think he could skip the flowers entirely... just pour on the chocolates... lol

I recently discovered another line of Elisabeth Bell stamps (doing a wild jig as I type). The image I used today is by Belles n' Whistles and is called "Sweet Love." How fitting! I entered this is this week's B & W Challenge. Check it out here. I hope you enjoy today's card. Maybe I will have some hot chocolate in a few... lol...

Thanks for reading as always and blessings to you!

Tilda Picking Lilacs

I find myself coloring tons of images with flowers in them! I think I must be focused on spring! lol... One of my favorites would have to be old fashioned lilacs. About 3 years ago my mother moved from the farm I was grew up on. My parents moved there in 1968. All total she lived there for over 40 years! There was a beautiful lilac bush there. The original cutting came from my grandmother when Mom and Dad first moved. There's no telling how old the original specimen was. Grandmother was born in 1896! That lilac had such a wonderful aroma. When Mom moved I failed to take a cutting. I did get one from a rose that came from Grandmother's place. Maybe this spring I will go back and ask the new owners if I can take a cutting! It's kinda cool to think of three generations of women caring for that lilac! This stamp from Magnolia reminds me of that sweet lilac! I hope you enjoy the image as much as I do!

I started out with the best of intentions. I thought I would dig my hands into some of my old crafting products and get my hands dirty... lol... That went really well!!! ODBDSLC45 Sketch Challenge

Hello Saturday! Today has been a busy day for me. I started out playing with some cute St. Bernard puppies and then hurried to the grocery to pick up a few items before the next snow hits! It seems like we have had an unusual amount of the white stuff this year. I'm afraid the crocus are afraid to push their little heads out... lol...

I'm really excited about today's card. One of my favorite blogger/card makers, Angela Crockett created a lovely card over at ODBD. This week's challenge was based on a sketch of her card. She makes some yummy cards! Be sure to take a peek here and show her some love!

Thanks as always for reading and have a wonderful day!

Black, white and blue all over....

Happy Friday! If you think you have already looked at this card.... you have... sort of... Last week I used this image from ODBD. I decided to use a more muted palette on today's card. I simply sponged the background with a soft gray and let the butterfly catch the eye. I submitted this card for a challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow. Check it out here. This card was designed as a sympathy card. I wanted something a little more subdued but upbeat. Here's hoping you have a wonderful weekend.

Can you believe this little cutie has been languishing on my desk? She kept waiting for me to do something with her! I purchased the paper a while back while visiting an out of town scrapbook store. This little lady looks like she has finally met her match! I think the image works well with the Bo Bunny paper. Hope you are having a wonderful Thursday. Friday is almost here!

Longing For Spring

I find myself pouring over catalogs feeling that urgent need to purchase something. After all I have been good, right? I wouldn't even considering buying something I don't need. The beautiful colors mesmerize me. I can't seem to stop thinking about beautiful pinks, blues and vibrant greens. I'm sure I can use them to create beauty. I am weakening and my debit card is sure to be the first casualty...

It must be card stock or new embellishments I'm drooling over, right? WRONG! The annual Burpee's seed catalog has arrived! And for gardeners it is as eagerly anticipated as the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is for some! I am so tired of snow and mud and... need I say more? I crave daffodils, tulips, rudbekia and purple coneflower. I am convinced I can catch a whiff of the sweet fragrance of sweet peas in the air. Until then I can dream and so can you! Hope you enjoy this card inspired by one I spotted in a recent card magazine. Blessings to you!

What's up pup?

Isn't this the cutest darned stamp ever? I must admit due to my love of dogs I may not be impartial (insert big tail wagging grin here...) I spotted this stamp in a recent magazine and rushed to order one. I just love it! The possibilities are endless! It would look great on a little boy's card, your favorite animal lover or for someone who needs cheering up... And who could resist a cute image like this one? lol... The beauty of this image is it can be paired with a variety of sentiments. I love flexibility! This little jewel will go to one of my friends! Hopefully it will bring a smile to her face as it did mine! Make it a great day!

I'm switching gears! The last few projects have taken quite a bit of time to put together. So today I decided to do something quick and easy. You know... the kind of project that comes out of a handful of scraps in your stash! I love those projects. Sometimes it is nice to just throw something together. I call them my clean and simple cards! So here's to slowing down a little and enjoying the simple things! Make it a wonderful day!

Faithfulness

Never were truer words spoken! How can we possibly do the big stuff if we can't handle the little stuff? I often think of the Parable of the Talents when I think of this. It would be so easy to just say... I really can't do that now... someone else will do it. But ultimately we miss a blessing! Whether it be a talent, our time and/or our money we should always give our all! After all, He gave everything for us. What if the butterfly didn't give his all? Only through time and patience can the ugliest of worms become the loveliest of butterflys. Give it your all this week and see what happens! Blessings to you this Lord's day!

Double Dare Saturday

It seems like a month since I posted! I have been very busy (at my "day" job) trying to close out books for the year. The word hectic doesn't seem to capture the sense of what the last few weeks have been like. Hopefully, we will get things under control in the coming weeks and I can take a breather! The beauty of accounting... you're never really done with a project.... The next month you start the routine over! My Lord has blessed me tremendously. I have a wonderful job which meets my needs and allows me to have the extra time to create paper projects! I marvel at how far my life has come in the last year. But I know it was all His plan and it humbles me to know that!

I have posted a couple of cards today... hence "double dare"... I created these cards for a couple of challenges over at Our Daily Bread Designs. The card in my post below was chosen for this week's Shining the Light Award there. Please take a moment, scroll down and click on one of the award icons on the bottom right of my blog. If you haven't checked out their website please do! There are some wonderful creations over there. They never fail to inspire me! Blessings to you this week and as always I look forward to hearing from you!

ODBDSLC43

Today's card is the direct result of a challenge over at Our Daily Bread Designs. The uber talented ladies over there have asked participants to use something old and something new. This works well for me as I love to buy new and fail to use my old stash... (insert very penitent look here)... Me thinks a New Year Resolution should have been in order... I just purchased a few new items from ODBD (including the new Butterfly Corner stamp) and decided to ink them up. Let me just say I love ODBD stamps. They are my go to stamps for all occasions. And this new series does not disappoint. Thanks as always for reading and sharing your thoughts! Blessings!

WARNING... LENGTHY POST AHEAD... :-)

What inspires you? I struggle with this. I started scrapbooking 9 years ago. Let me tell you it was tough! Not that I had problems with putting colors, patterns and designs together... but I struggled with subjects. I always felt awkward at crops or other functions while everyone gushed about their children. I would pull out my stash of photos and try to put something together.

I came to the hobby without the usual background. You see, I didn't have children to journal about. And unfortunately I knew that would never happen. So while others documented the lives of their little ones, I recorded memories about trips and my beloved animals. They gave me something to journal about. My Saints became favorite subjects. And as many people well know, they became like children to me. To this day, I consider my fluffers my babies. My family has grown as I have been blessed with step children and step grandchildren. But my pups retain a special corner in my heart. They kinda make me all warm and fuzzy... like this card. I hope you enjoy today's project. At the end I included some Mama fluffer brag photos...

Blessings -

The Sky is the Limit!

Valentine's Day will be here before we know it. Many of the cards I see are kinda frilly... you know all cupids, lace and the like. But sometimes that just doesn't do the trick. And I like to send notes of encouragement that tie in to the holiday/season. So today, I decided to create a card that could be sent to my best friend or my hubby. Because, truth is, everyone needs a little encouragement now and then. Here's hoping you have a wonderful day!

A Little Love

Pardon me... I think there is a Tina Turner tune playing in my head... "what's love got to do with it?"... I just aged myself, didn't I? ;-p

Love has a great deal to do with it really. I love that sign people post in their homes... "because two people fell in love..." So now we know who to blame, right? Indulge my silliness please...

February will be here before we know it. I haven't been to my local box store but I suspect the big heart shaped candy boxes are on the shelves. Rows of conversation hearts... so fun to look at but does anyone really eat them? hmmmmm...

Valentine's day is usually low key at our home. We rarely dine out. Usually we fix something at home and just hang out. Most years we just talk about where we've been and where we're going. Sometimes it is important to just take stock of where each other is at and where the relationship as a whole is going. How do you know if you don't ask? So this little card will probably go to my honey. Hopefully he will think kindly of me and not ding me too hard when we discuss the good and bad of the last year... lol

This stamp set from Papertrey Ink is so versatile. I love that it can be used for all those "mushy" occasions. Clean and simple... stamping the way I like it... Enjoy and have a wonderful and blessed day!

We have a new family member!

Things have been a little crazy around our household this past week. We had a wonderful Christmas full of family, friends and food! Then a few short days later our family got a little larger as we welcomed the newest member, Emma Grace! Emma is our 5th grandchild! Mom, baby and family are doing well.

I started a card shortly after for Emma but wouldn't you know it... I got sick... the flu... So much for flu shots right? :-P Today is the first day I feel half way normal... but if you see any typos please forgive me... My brain is still very foggy!

Before the card I have to share a photo of Emma... (insert proud grandma grin here)...

And on to the card...
