Autumn Blessings

The last few cards have dealt with blessings. In honor of that I decided to share one of my favorite Bible verses today. Our country has been nurtured and protected by our heavenly Father for over 300 years. Our country has a wonderful Christian heritage. With him all things are possible! Blessings!

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance."
Psalm 33:12

Giving Thanks

There are many things to give thanks for each and every day. We are never promised a tomorrow and for those who know the Lord Christ as their Savior there is the comfort of spending eternity with him. I am thankful for my family, my country and my Lord. There are so many blessings that he has given me. I deserve none of them. It is only through his grace and mercy that I can even be called a Child of the King.

As you may know this week I have taken a slight sabbatical from blogging. There have been many changes this week. If you read my last post you know that our son left for school last Sunday. I had a difficult few days dealing with that. A day later I found out that a cousin had been killed while serving as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan. The entire family is very proud of this young man and his sacrifice but it is difficult for his mother and grandmother to understand. Death is difficult to understand and hard to cope with when you do not know the peace that passes all understand. Thank you in advance for your prayers for this family. And above all give thanks for the blessings in your life. They are plentiful!

Notes on image - the two pumpkins outside the basket are actually a stamped image. I first stamped them on two sheets of paper (one on Gina K. paper and the other on scrap paper) and then cut the scrap image out. I used this as a mask over the good image (stamped on Gina K) and then stamped my basket over it. Removed the mask and voila! This way the basket appears to be behind the pumpkins. This is known as "masking" an image.

Psalm 4:8

Well, step-son left yesterday for school. Dad handled it beautifully but step-mom fell apart... I kept blubbering... and asking hubby why I was taking this so hard... He had some very wise words to share... "it takes a special kind of woman to love another woman's biological child. You my dear have loved him as if he were your very own..." So after I sobbed some more... (Kleenex made a killing off of me yesterday...) I pulled myself together long enough to work on this card. I had some leftover pieces of paper and the sentiment... it says it all. Here's to new beginnings and new blessings! Have a wonderful week!

Sometimes We Need a Little Punch...

paper punch that is... Die cuts and paper punches are so cool. I think men get a bad rap. We joke about them and power tools but aren't we just as bad? I mean after all, when a new scrapbooking/cardmaking toy comes out don't we all start to collectively salivate? Tee, hee... maybe I am the ONLY one who does this! So until the new dies come out I have to satisfy myself with creating with the old ones. This round I really tried to do something outside the box. The card is actually a "window" card. I have taken the die and cut through not one, not two but 6 layers of paper! This was a little tricky and I had to put the card together (without gluing it down first) and trace where I wanted to cut. Then I had to put the die back in the tracing and run it through my cuttlebug. The hardest part was actually cutting the card base but after some trimming with my trusty Fiskars it looks almost useable... (:-P) I hope you try something new this week in your papercrafting. This old dog learned a few new tricks! Blessings!

Cardstock - Georgia Pacific - card base
Pattern Paper - Kaisercraft - Peechy Keen Collection
Ink - Sentiment (stamped inside window) Memento - Rich Cocoa

Stamp - Our Daily Bread Designs - Customer Favorites - Scripture Series 1
Dies - Spellbinders - Nestabilties - Fleur De Lis Pendant
Dies - Spellbinders - Nestabilities - Labels Twelve
Paper Punch - Martha Stewarts
Ribbon - unknown

I used two of the Labels Twelve dies run through at the same time to create the brown frame. The smaller of the two dies was used to cut the window out of the multiple layers. This is MUCH easier if done one layer at a time. I found that tracing the template on and then running it through my Cuttlebug was the ticket. I would suggest you do the cardbase first as that seems to work better! After punching out the pendant, I positioned it where I wanted it in relation to the smaller of the Labels Twelve and then used that die to cut out the center of the pendant... Then adhere! Believe me it looks worse than what it is! Enjoy!

Challenge SNTODBD16

One of the challenges this week at Our Daily Bread Designs was to incorporate a bird into a card design. Specifically they asked those playing along to do something seasonal that ties in with the bird stamps. Easy right? Except I am a dumb cluck... (pun intended) and couldn't decided whether Mr. Chickadee was a spring, summer, fall or winter creature. That took me back to the Color Me Beautiful days... I think I dated myself with that comment! :-P After search the internet to find a final answer I settled on a winter theme. Most of the photos I saw were taken in the winter months when the little guy was snacking on berries. So hopefully this card does our little black crested chickadee his just dues!

Today's creation was inspired by a recent tent card highlighted on Splitcoaststampers. Check out
this for details!

Howdy Neighbor!

Ok... I had to do another farm themed card! I love this set of stamps from Close to My Heart. You know how it is... you fall in love with a set of stamps and you go crazy using it on everything... I'm also excited to have made it to Friday. A group of co-workers and friends are having a big crop tonight. I'm REALLY looking forward to that! Good friends, good food, scrapbooking and cardmaking... what more could a girl want? So best wishes as you wrap up your week. Hope you have a wonderful day!

Herd It's Your Birthday!

Growing up my family had a small dairy farm. When I saw this image from Close to My Heart it brought a big smile to my face. Of course back then I believed cows had to be the dumbest creatures on earth. At that point I hadn't met sheep yet... LOL... Now I find them to be the gentlest of creatures. We had Holsteins... the black and white kind for those of you who are not familiar with dairy cows. We also had an occasional Brown Swiss. The Brown Swiss had the most beautiful brown eyes and long eyelashes. So when I colored this image I decided to go that route. I remember thinking back then that chocolate milk had to come from the brown swiss... LOL... Have a great day! Maybe I will go drink some of that Brown Swiss milk... :-P

Welcome Baby!

I have exciting news! Before my friends who read this blog (all two of them) get excited... I'm not expecting! Whew! But we did find out yesterday that son and daughter-in-law are having a girl! This makes number five in their family. A few years ago they adopted number 4 and had given up on having more. Well... as God often works... SURPRISE!!!! We are really excited to have a new little girl. This will shift the balance of power though. Now there will be 3 girls and 2 boys... Ben and John are not liking this AT ALL! LOL... I've told the kids don't expect to see the bathroom at all during the teenage years... They will just have to take a number!

And for more exciting news... this makes my 63rd post this year. Why is that so special? Because last year I only had 62 posts. I have now officially surpassed last years total! Thanks so much for watching, reading and posting. I appreciate your love, prayers and feedback! Until next time...

Friends and Stamps...

It's a super day when good friends loan you great stamps! Recently my friend, Diane, loaned me one out of her stash. Originally I intended to use the image for a coloring class but as sometimes happens kept the image to myself. :-P As you may know I have used the sunflower theme on several cards over the last two years. I love them! And it is so fun to color them with Copics! So here's to good friends in life who trust you with their stamps! They are the best! And just for the record Diane did get her stamp back... ;-p

Merry Christmas????

How fun is that? The weather is so delightful... :-) OK, no snow songs here... Outside the weather with heat index considered is over 100 degrees. Creating this card served a dual purpose... first to make me think cool and second to get a jump on the holidays. Our Daily Bread Designs is also having a challenge this week. Submissions need to use the same image more than once.

The ribbon actually started this whole card quest. Yesterday I made a stop at my local BigLots and found this awesome ribbon for a buck! I must be the only one whose mind starts turning with ideas when they spot new ribbon... LOL... I know it is a double post but I was so excited I had to share. Hope you are having a wonderful day!

Friends Fur-ever!

As I am writing this post today, I am thinking about the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. And before this morning I hadn't thought about that beautiful place in Tennessee for a long time. Apparently this card has inspired me to go visit! Now, if I can just get dear hubby to go along with the idea... LOL...

This card is a little different for me. I actually broke out the Cricut Expression and Gypsy again. I don't know why I don't do this more often. I guess I have become a creature of habit and since taking up Copics I just want to color everything. Good thing the St. Bernards won't stand still! :-P

I found the fun flock technique over at My Craft Spot on August 12th and had to try it. Check it out! If I can do it anyone can! Have a blessed and relaxing Sunday everyone and thanks again as always.

Cardstock - White - Georgia Pacific, Blue, Brown, Gray - Bazzill
Pattern Paper - Trees, grass - unknown
Ink - Memento - Black Tuxedo
Flocking - Stampendous - Plain Ol' Black
Adhesives - Xyron 500 - flocking, Zig Two Way Glue - assembling flocked parts to die cut (ex. Mr. Raccoon's mask)
Sentiment - My Pink Stamper - Punny-licious
Pop Dots
Provocraft Cricut Cartridge - Create A Critter

Cricut Measurements

Raccoon - 3.29 inches X 3.12
Trees - two trees welded and stretched, final measurements 5.17 inches X 3.23
Grass - 4 images welded, final measurements 5.98 inches X 1.01

The mountains and sky are simply torn paper applied to the white backing. I cut the trees and grass out twice and doubled them up with pop dots for dimension. For the flocking I ran the blackout image of the raccoon through my xyron UPSIDE down and adherred layers. THEN I filled in with flocking as I wanted the feet and arms to be fuzzy... The layers (tail and mask) were flocked separately and then adherred to image. Check out Kimberly's blog I mentioned above for a easy video!

ODBD Shining the Light Award!

Tinkled pink, I am... Thanks so much to the ladies over at Our Daily Bread Designs for spotlighting one of my cards in their Shining the Light Award Challenge this week! I am so excited. Anyone who follows my blog knows I use a number of their stamps. It is so hard to find inspirational and beautiful stamps. ODBD never fails to disappoint. I am attaching the link to the post announcing the challenge winners. Be sure to stop over at their shop afterwards and pick up some beautiful stamps! They will not disappoint! Blessings!

The Tree of Life

Shaker style has always intrigued me. I love how they incorporate the Tree of Life in many everyday items. Several years ago I had the opportunity to visit Shaker Village south of Lexington, Kentucky. I fell in love with the muted colors, simple peg railings and shaker boxes. The clean look goes so well with primitive things which I also love. It also speaks of a simpler time when people put more emphasis on God versus stuff.

I saw this idea in a recent magazine ad. Someone had used a new embossing folder to create a tree and added buttons. Immediately, I thought, I can do that (goofy grin here) and set off to my stamp stash! The stamp is a Hero Arts design that I bought a couple years back. I used it one time and was thoroughly frustrated by the results. So, I put it back in it's corner and it did not see the light of day until I made this card! When I put it all together it was like WOW... this stamp is REALLY COOL... Does anyone else ever have those what am I going to do with this moments? LOL. Well, I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Saturday. And I thought I might throw in a little verse for you today.... Enjoy!

"Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit." Matthew 12:33

Hay There!

Vacation's over! Very sad face... But on a brighter note I just work today and then will be off for the weekend! But seriously, I am very blessed to have a wonderful job that provides for the needs of my family. And amazingly this job came up for me during the darkest days of this recent recession. And did I mention I had another job offer within 3 days of this one? It was a God thing... nothing else! It was scary changing careers and companies after 11 years but for my emotional health it was just what the doctor ordered. And best of all I have every other Friday off! So that means more crafting! Hooray! Sometimes we just have to recognize it is in His hands and not ours. Easier said than done for a Type A personality like me but it sure makes life alot easier! Blessings to you today and make it a great day! And remember to say "hay" to someone you love! :-)

Faux Marble Card and Puppy Pic!

Drum roll, please! I have puppy photos! Bear with me as today's post is fairly long. I wanted to cover the technique I used to create this card plus post some cute fluffer photos!

Have you ever created a card that sort of happened? I really did not set out to make a sympathy card but after creating the marble look paper it seemed a natural fit. So here goes!

Marble Paper

Inkssentials - Glossy Paper
Memento Reinkers - Desert Sand, Rich Cocoa, Tuxedo Black
Tim Holtz Adirondak Alcohol Ink Mixatives Silver
Tim Holtz Ink Applicator
Rubbing Alcohol
Cotton Balls

I cut the glossy cardstock into a 5 X 7 sheet. I was unsure starting out what size I would need plus this gives me a little room to trim off any imperfect edges. First I applied a light coat in swirling motions of Desert Sand and let dry. Then I added a few drops of Rich Cocoa and Tuxedo Black to a new felt pad and applied in patting motions. Once the paper was covered I varied the motions, swirls, feather strokes, etc to get the look I wanted. Then I applied the silver mixative (daubing it on) with a new felt pad. Finally I saturated some cotton balls with rubbing alcohol and daubed the paper, particularly where the silver was to give it a sort of veining. Easy, huh?

After it dried thoroughly I was ready to use it in a card!

The marble paper came out a nice shade of gray and silver so I decided to dig in my paper stash and see what I had. I came across a piece of discontinued paper that I purchased for 10 cents! Gotta love that!

Card Recipe

5 X 7 Inches

Cardstock - Black and White - Georgia Pacific
Pattern Paper - The Paper Studio - Silver Wedding Ornate (who says you can't use wedding paper for other projects?)
Punch - Martha Stewart - Punch Around the Page - Modern Garland
Stamp - Our Daily Bread Designs - Scripture Series 1
Ink - Scripture - Memento Tuxedo Black
Ribbon - unknown - Satin Black
Pop Dots
Adhesive - Herma Dotto
Corner Rounder

A fun note on the ribbon -

I ran the ribbon through and secured it behind the sentiment intending to tie a bow. When I ran the ribbon under to tie it, I realized the area was so "tight" that the ribbon took on the look of a bow-tie. So I just trimmed the ribbon and left it as is! A wonderfully happy accident... if there is such a thing!

Now on to important stuff... I have attached a photo below of a few of the new fluffers. They are 2 days old! We can only keep half of the litter in with Mama at a time as Saints are such big dogs they can sometimes crush one of their babies. :-( So all is well here with the new additions. As you can tell by their little bellies the Morgan buffet feeds well! Until next time and as always thanks for looking, reading and giving me feedback! God Bless!

Mojo Monday

Today's card was designed for a contest over at Mojo Monday's blog. If you haven't had a chance to check out their site take a look. This particular challenge gives you a sketch to interpret. Call me a purist but I love sketches. They are kinda like a road map and I am a visual learner! If I had my choice between a good old fashioned atlas and my TomTom, the atlas would win every time! I like being able to see the overall picture of things, what other sites are around and the like. Plus ole Tom has been known to give me a few miscues on occasion. After all, technology is only as good as those who create it... :-) And my hubby would say as good as those who use it! (wink, wink) Hope you have a terrific Wednesday! Friday is almost here!

Card Making Machine

Vacation rocks! I have gotten so much done around the house over the last few days. I actually feel like I have a handle on things for the first time in 6 months. That is a great feeling!

Even more amazing is the fact I have 7 cards done, photographed and ready to post over the coming days! This is a new record for me. :-) And I owe it all to nervous energy. Last night I was up until well after midnight making cards. Why? My beloved Morgan, the St. Bernard was having puppies! Some people pace or smoke cigars, I make cards! :-) Poor hubby was up all night and as I type is trying to catch a few well deserved winks. Unfortunately there are so many complications that can arise so he has to stay with them pretty much the entire first ten hours. My big girl had 9 puppies! She is such a good little mommy. She checks on each and every one. What a trooper!

So during the coming days you are going to see a sort of Morgan mini-series... creations I created as she brought puppies into the world. There is an eclectic mix of stamps, papers and the like so it should be fun for you to look at. Many of the images were colored months ago. I often color things several months ahead and "forget" about them. I may be unable to give you specific Copic numbers as I was not as faithful about tracking that months back. Well I am off to snuggle with baby fluffs and maybe make some more cards! Have a wonderful day!

I'll post puppy pics when the excitement settles down... :-)
