It is time for another Our Daily Bread Designs' Shining the Light Challenge... 

This one is for the men!

We want to see projects that celebrate and honor the men in our lives!

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a prize, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! If you are not using ODBD stamps, please do not enter more than once. Additional entries without using ODBD stamps will not be commented on nor will they qualify for prizes.

While it is not required to use Our Daily Bread Designs images and sentiments on your creations, we would love to see them if you have them! As a way of recognizing those who do use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing 1 to 2 creations to spotlight for our Shining the Light Award. In order to qualify for this award, however, you must use Our Daily Bread stamps and have your submission added to Mr. Linky by Sunday, November 4th at 8 p.m. EST. If you upload your creations to Splitcoast Stampers or any other online gallery, please use the keyword ODBDSLC128. When creating your posts on blogs please include a link to our challenge.

And my creation for the week...

I dry embossed the focal panel to mimic tooled leather.  The frame is a chipboard oval that I covered silver embossing powder and UTEE.  It resembles tarnished silver!  You will find a tutorial HERE.

Faux Leather - Part 2

This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to show you a card created with faux leather for the ODBDSLC. Today's card was also created with that challenge in mind. But this technique for faux leather uses an ordinary paper bag! That's right, a paper bag! In this case I used a lunch sack I had lying around to create the area my image was stamped on.

Here's how...

1. Cut the paper bag into a size easy to work with (remove bottom, sides, etc)

2. Lightly mist with a water bottle (I use a Ranger Mini Mister)

3. Crumple the bag into a tight ball. Take out your frustrations! :-)

4. Gently open up bag and flatten to dry.

5. After drying, age it... I used Distress Ink by Ranger in Vintage Photo

6. I stamped my image from the ODBD set, Anchor on the faux leather.

7. Heat set your image.

8. Lightly coat the bag/image with Mod Podge.

9. Dry thoroughly.

10. Add additional ink for more vibrant distressing and cut as desired!

Card Making Machine

Vacation rocks! I have gotten so much done around the house over the last few days. I actually feel like I have a handle on things for the first time in 6 months. That is a great feeling!

Even more amazing is the fact I have 7 cards done, photographed and ready to post over the coming days! This is a new record for me. :-) And I owe it all to nervous energy. Last night I was up until well after midnight making cards. Why? My beloved Morgan, the St. Bernard was having puppies! Some people pace or smoke cigars, I make cards! :-) Poor hubby was up all night and as I type is trying to catch a few well deserved winks. Unfortunately there are so many complications that can arise so he has to stay with them pretty much the entire first ten hours. My big girl had 9 puppies! She is such a good little mommy. She checks on each and every one. What a trooper!

So during the coming days you are going to see a sort of Morgan mini-series... creations I created as she brought puppies into the world. There is an eclectic mix of stamps, papers and the like so it should be fun for you to look at. Many of the images were colored months ago. I often color things several months ahead and "forget" about them. I may be unable to give you specific Copic numbers as I was not as faithful about tracking that months back. Well I am off to snuggle with baby fluffs and maybe make some more cards! Have a wonderful day!

I need to get some important business out of the way this morning. I AM SO EXCITED! There, I said it, screamed it from the rooftop, drove my St. Bernards nuts and tore my neighbors up at 5:30AM in the morning... :-) Why have I lost my mind, you ask? I love, love, love the new Our Daily Bread Designs Stamp Sets! How did I come to this state of mind? It all began this way...

Dear hubby and step-son took off early this morning to move the first load of essentials into son's new apartment in Lynchburg, Virginia. You know, important bachelor stuff, like a couch and television... LOL... I gave them strict instructions to write down a list of things he forgot (or may need) and bring it back this weekend. So while they are away I planned on doing some serious housecleaning, relaxing and of course scrappin! (Not necessarily in that order...) So as soon as the car left the drive I pulled out my new ODBD set and went to work. The results are amazing! I know it isn't me... so it has to be the stamps! On Eagles Wings

Isaiah 40:31 is one of my favorite scriptures. Eagles are one of the most majestic and powerful birds in the world. I think of them as our national symbol so strong, free and beautiful sailing across the sky. My college mascot was an eagle and that reminds me of friendships that last a lifetime. I think of the promise of this scripture. No matter how tired we are with God anything is possible. This is also one of our Pastor's favorite passages. Today was his last day with us after being called to serve a church in Florida. This stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs seemed a natural fit for this final card. The Road...

How true is this sentiment? My hubby and son just returned from a three day adventure in Lynchburg Virginia. Michael is leaving in a few weeks to pursue his Master's at Liberty University. He is excited but apprehensive. Dad and Step-Mom are too! This is the first time he has really been away for any period of time. He commuted back and forth on weekends as as undergraduate to work with our church's youth. So being 8 hours away seems a little far for all of us! But we realized with God's help anything is possible and this young man is embarking on an exciting new chapter of life. Mom and Dad will be visiting often and sending those all important packages and cards! So I would venture to say this card says it all. The road to a friend (or family members) home is never long. Here's hoping you have a wonderful Saturday!

The nuts and bolts of card making

What reminds me of my husband and in particular his pickup truck? One of the new cuttlebug folders.... The diamond plate reminds me of tool boxes in the bed of an old pick up truck... stocked with essential farm repair items.... Something else that reminds me of the farm is an ATV.... I combined both of these elements in my latest card. I tried to achieve a somewhat masculine but fun card. The brads are made to look like screws. The die of the ATV came from the Cricut Going Places cartridge. The diamond pattern is done on heavy duty aluminum foil which was attached to cardstock prior to embossing. This made it much sturdier and easy to attach... Have a fun and safe summer!
