Double Dare Saturday

It seems like a month since I posted! I have been very busy (at my "day" job) trying to close out books for the year. The word hectic doesn't seem to capture the sense of what the last few weeks have been like. Hopefully, we will get things under control in the coming weeks and I can take a breather! The beauty of accounting... you're never really done with a project.... The next month you start the routine over! My Lord has blessed me tremendously. I have a wonderful job which meets my needs and allows me to have the extra time to create paper projects! I marvel at how far my life has come in the last year. But I know it was all His plan and it humbles me to know that!

I have posted a couple of cards today... hence "double dare"... I created these cards for a couple of challenges over at Our Daily Bread Designs. The card in my post below was chosen for this week's Shining the Light Award there. Please take a moment, scroll down and click on one of the award icons on the bottom right of my blog. If you haven't checked out their website please do! There are some wonderful creations over there. They never fail to inspire me! Blessings to you this week and as always I look forward to hearing from you!

ODBDSLC43

Today's card is the direct result of a challenge over at Our Daily Bread Designs. The uber talented ladies over there have asked participants to use something old and something new. This works well for me as I love to buy new and fail to use my old stash... (insert very penitent look here)... Me thinks a New Year Resolution should have been in order... I just purchased a few new items from ODBD (including the new Butterfly Corner stamp) and decided to ink them up. Let me just say I love ODBD stamps. They are my go to stamps for all occasions. And this new series does not disappoint. Thanks as always for reading and sharing your thoughts! Blessings!

We Three Kings

The countdown to Christmas continues today. Except, instead of gift giving I have switched back to Christmas cards. Today's project uses a new set of stamps (new to me) from Our Daily Bread Designs. I have been eyeballing this set for a while and recently decided to bite the bullet and purchase. And I am wondering why I waited? I just love this set! I can't wait to use it on other projects! Blessings to you and yours! Make it a wonderful day!

Stamping in Time: On Assignment Challenge

Thanks to Betty at Our Daily Bread Designs for asking me to host today's Stamping in Time Challenge!

When I think of quilts, I think of the traditional crazy quilts that my grandmother made. Even though she passed away when I was a small child, I feel like I know her by her handiwork. Back then, quilts were stitched either on a treadle sewing machine or by hand. And she used the scraps she had available. She was "green" before it was cool! The plaids may have come from Grandpa’s old shirt and the calico may have been scraps left over from clothing for the children. One section of the quilt even looks like something left over from a necktie!

To create today’s project, I adhered scraps of designer paper and card stock to a 5 x 7 inch paper base. (This project is perfect for those leftover scraps you have lying around.) I then stitched the scraps into place with my trusty sewing machine. As you can see, I tried to pull scraps of plaids and drab colors that mimic a crazy quilt. And I purposely stitched with red thread. (My grandmother’s quilt has the same color and type of stitching.) The verse is from the recent ODBD set, Our Daily Bread. There are a few fun details too. Notice the paper piercing on the bottom of the verse? I also added some random buttons from my stash along with a couple of dress maker pins. I also decided to add a scrap of paper with a button to the bottom corner of the frame! I mounted the project inside a plain 5 x 7 inch picture frame (glass removed) from my local discount store. I plan to give this as a Christmas gift this year! Thanks for playing along this week! I can’t wait to see what creations you come up with!

Blessings,

Lori

Praise the Lord

Today's card was created using an image from Stampavie. Specifically this image is called Francesca in the Winter Field by Sarah Kay. The sentiment is one I pulled from a group of Inkadinkado stamps. I think the sentiment goes well with this image. I know in the cooler months, I forget all the things to be thankful for. It is easy to focus on the shorter days and challenging weather and forget the beauty all around us. The little girl in this image seems to be taking time to see the beauty in it all by stopping to appreciate the birds as they gather food for winter. So as this weekend I pull out my scarf and gloves, instead of grumbling, I plan on celebrating what God as given me. I have another day of life and a beautiful season to behold. Praise the Lord for all the things he has done!

Blessings

It is true!

This week's challenge over at Our Daily Bread Designs involves creating something bright and white! The idea is to make a card with minimal coloring. This is something that is particularly challenging for me. (I guess that's why it is called a challenge, right?) I love color! It just seems strange to not pulled out the bright designer paper and card stock.

I have created this type of card one time before and surprisingly I REALLY liked the results. Naturally, I thought it was all a coincidence and that I really could not make this type of card. So with that thought in the back of my head, I set about to work on the ODBD challenge. And did I surprise myself! I really LOVE the results this time and I hope you do to! Take a look and take the challenge yourself! Freedom from color rocks! Have a wonderful Sabbath day!

Lori

Card Recipe

5 x 6 inch designs

Card stock - Georgia Pacific - card, Neenah - Image
Ink - Image - Memento - Tuxedo Black, Copic
Ink - Sentiment - Memento - Grape Jelly
Ink - Background - Memento - Summer Sky
Image - Stamp and Sentiment - Our Daily Bread Designs - The Lord Has Risen
Punch - Martha Stewart
Embossing - Provocraft - Swiss Dots Folder
Smooch Spritz - Vanilla Shimmer
Scor Buddy
Die Cuts - Spellbinders - Fleur De Lis Pendant, Labels One
Corner Rounder - 1/4 in - Crop A Dile
Pearls - Scrappers Must Haves
Adhesive - Scotch Brand Foam Tape

Directions

1. The body of the card was cut to 10 x 6 inches and scored at the 5 inch point with my
Scor Buddy.

2. The second layer was cut to 5 X 6 inches and edged on two sides with MS punch.
Adhere to base with adhesive foam.

3. The third layer was cut to 5 x 6 inches, embossed with the Swiss dots folder leaving
approximately 3/4 in outside of the embossing folder. I then highlighted the non
embossed areas by scoring those in my Scor Buddy.

4. I cut my pendant and smaller pendant out of card stock. These components along
with the embossed layer were covered with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch and allowed to dry.

5. I colored my image and then cut/embossed it with the Labels One die. Once this was
done, I lightly sponged around the edges with the Summer Sky ink BEFORE removing
the die.

6. Once the Swiss Dot base was dry, I adhered it to the punched layer. I then layered
the pendant fleur de lis and the smaller pendant (which I cut in two and placed on
each side as a second layer).

7. After layering and adhering to the card, I stamped my verse on card stock, cut it down
and used my corner rounder to soften the edges. I adhered it with foam dots and
embellished with pearls!

Just a Little Sparkle

I must admit bling SCARES me! I'm an accountant and anything flashy doesn't go over well. But I love snow and how can you create something wintry and not use some shimmer? I'm trying to get a leg up on some Christmas cards. And each week or so (if my plan comes to fruition) I will create a card or two to share. Then maybe by the time the 25th rolls around I will not be frantically throwing some cards together. Or even worse buying cards at the local discount store... :-) Maybe for once I will be ahead of the game... or maybe not... but I can always dream of that and a white Christmas... Hope you are having a wonderful day...

Lori

Card Recipe 5 X 7 inches

Card Stock - White - Georgia Pacific, Bazzill Birthstone
Designer Paper - Pebbles Inc. - Snow Fun Snowflakes - Green
Image & Sentiment - ODBD Peace & Joy
Versamark
Embossing Powder - Stamp n Stuff - Winterwonderland Opaque
Ink - CTMH - Indian Corn Blue
Glimmer Mist - Tattered Angels - Sapphire
Smooch Spritz - Silver Foil, Vanilla Shimmer
Ribbon - Offray
Stickles - Ranger - Star Dust

First I embossed the snowflake image and sentiment on a white piece of card stock. After embossing I sponged CTMH ink (Indian Corn Blue) on. I then wiped the excess ink off of the embossed image and sentiment (resist technique). To give my "custom paper" shimmer, I then spritzed the image with Sapphire Glimmer Mist (lightly on the edges). I also applied a light spritz of Vanilla Shimmer Smootch and Silver Foil all over. My final touch was to lightly apply Star Dust Stickles to areas of the snowflake that I wished to highlight. Voila! My image was a work of bling or art... whichever you prefer!

Merry Christmas????

How fun is that? The weather is so delightful... :-) OK, no snow songs here... Outside the weather with heat index considered is over 100 degrees. Creating this card served a dual purpose... first to make me think cool and second to get a jump on the holidays. Our Daily Bread Designs is also having a challenge this week. Submissions need to use the same image more than once.

The ribbon actually started this whole card quest. Yesterday I made a stop at my local BigLots and found this awesome ribbon for a buck! I must be the only one whose mind starts turning with ideas when they spot new ribbon... LOL... I know it is a double post but I was so excited I had to share. Hope you are having a wonderful day!

In the words of the great Philosopher (Hannibal, from the A team) "I love it when a plan comes together." :-) Here's hoping you and yours have a safe and festive July 4th!

The perfect gift...

Our creator gives us wonderful gifts each and every day. When I woke up this morning I was given another day of life. I looked out my window and saw the most amazing sunrise! Another wonderful gift... Yesterday morning I awoke to traces of snow on my deck. It was just a dusting but what a wonderful thing to see. By now you must think I am totally off my rocker waxing eloquent about snowflakes. Think about this. Each and every snowflake is individual. No two are alike. They are created with special characteristics that make them different from other snowflakes. Does this sound familiar? What else was made by the creator with such loving and individual care? Hope you and yours have a blessed Sabbath!

Teacher Appreciation Card

It is true confession time! I really, really, really wanted to become a teacher when I was a youngster. When I entered college I decided to pursue a "practical" vocation. The desire never left and 16 years after graduating the first time I went back. I became an honest to goodness teacher! What a time to graduate with the economy tanking... LOL... So even though I can't find a job, I will continue to look. It was both exhilarating and exhausting. I created this card as a special thank you for my mentor. I want her to know that each time I enter a classroom I will think of her and what she taught me. Enjoy!

Sentiment - unknown

I got who babe! Apologizes to Sonny and Cher...

I decided to try my hand at creating a card with the new Cuttlebug owl folder. I had my doubts... after all owls are not really all that cute! But anyway, I decided to give peace and owls a chance... It turned out great. The cardstock is dark brown and the picture does not do it justice. Lesson learned... don't be afraid to emboss dark color cardstock and don't be afraid of owls! LOL

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 223rd birthday America! In honor of this milestone, I created a card using the Cuttlebug Swiss Dot Folder and the Stitched Trim Folder. The Stamp is from Stampendous and is called Biker Bee. I accented with Diamond Stickles! Enjoy the card and these timely words from patriot Patrick Henry-

“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”

Surprise!!! It's Best Bunny!

There is something about Granny Apple Green that just brings a smile to my face!  When the first signs of Spring appear you are sure to see...
