Exploring Cricut - Pine Trees

Today's Exploring Cricut is all about pine... specifically pine trees and it doesn't have to be a Christmas tree! Even though my example uses the traditional pine (and cute kids) there are plenty of images available in the Cricut library. Pull out your favorite cartridge and go to work!

A Little Girl's Birthday - A Stair Step Card

A few days ago I asked For your prayers as I worked on a birthday card. A grandmother had asked me to create something special for her granddaughter's ninth birthday. I decided to use my Cricut and specifically the cartridge, A Child's Year. I absolutely love the images on this cartridge. They can be used for so many occasions.

I tried to reflect the changes in a young girl on this card. The first image is of a child celebrating it's first birthday. The second image is of a young girl playing at the beach. I picked this image because one of my friend's most prized photo is of her granddaughter at the beach. And finally, I picked a slightly older image of a girl holding a bird. My friend loves birds and I thought this image would remind her granddaughter how much she is loved! There are several great tutorials on the web. Just search for stair step cards! From My Kitchen

I love anything old... good thing... because I am old! LOL... I remember as a child my mother had a white painted hoosier cabinet. It had belonged to my grandmother. It had a graniteware pull out board for making bread. We made many homemade biscuits there. My mother on the other hand says she hates anything old. She jokingly says she grew up with old stuff and doesn't want it in her house now! Sometime in the 80's that precious cabinet went to the landfill. I was only a teen and did not understand the "heritage" I was losing. There is a danger in placing value in wordly possessions. However, the connection to our heritage is truly priceless. I can no longer run my hands over the cool granite where my grandmother made countless loaves of bread. When I saw this cartridge I knew I wanted to honor a simpler time, when we knew who our neighbors were. Folks sat on their front porch and watched the world go by or shot the breeze with a friend... Makes me want to slow down and say hello to those I love and value! Enjoy!

Yes, I am pushing the seasons! We are having such lovely fall like weather in Kentucky that my thoughts have turned to winter...

Stamp N Stuff Embossing Powder - Winter Wonderland

1. Use Memento ink to randomly stamp snowflake images on red cardstock.
2. Cut various snowflake images from A Child's Year cartridge using patterned paper
(vary sizes)
3. Punch snowflake images from MS punch. Apply stickles.
4. Ink edges of snowflakes from Cricut cuts.
5. Cut white strip of cardstock and edge with icicle punch. Apply to card.
6. Adhere patterned paper snowflakes to white cardstock with pop dots. Add
smaller punched snowflakes to top.
7. Emboss sentiment on card. Decorate icicles with stickles and let dry!

New Kitty Card

A pet is a huge responsibility! A young friend of mine recently received her first kitten. I created this card to celebrate such a momentous moment... Kaycee is growing up so fast!

Cleaning out creative cobwebs...

I don't do Halloween... literally... but I had to try my hand at creating a spooky card. After seeing the fun images on the new A Child's Year cartridge, I decided to try my hand at creating something spooktacular! It may not be all that but I think it turned out nicely. The background is embossed with the Cuttlebug Cobweb image and the sentiment was stamped on white cardstock. I cut a second image of the girl in order to attach the pumpkin. The ribbon was from a long forgotten stash. Maybe this won't be my last Halloween card... Mummies, spiders and pumpkins, oh my!
