ODBD ~ Thinking of You !

No, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. There were a few days when I felt like I might. LOL 

 

Christmas Eve was one of those days. I felt unusually drained. Christmas Day was much the same. But since John and I were hosting, I thought I was just worn out from all the family fun and frolic. Thursday and Friday were spent battling a raging fever and congestion. By Monday I forced myself to visit the doctor. Nausea, fever, the whole nine yards this past week... so much for starting out the new year...  :-P

No blogging here for the past few weeks my friends... My Christmas tree was stripped of its ornamentation (in phases) but it has not made it out of the house... I told John that I might just tie some Easter eggs on it and call it done... :-) Might as well laugh about it, right?   This too shall pass...

Coming Home

I'm blessed! There are many blessings that I can count on any given day. However, there is always one that comes immediately to mind. I'm home. Let me clarify for a moment. I have lived several places in my life but at this moment I live 15 minutes from where I grew up and spent my formative years. Many people long to get away from those roots and early in life I too decided I had to spread my wings. But after a few wing clippings (some deserved and some not so deserved) I managed to come home. As hard as I tried to deny my roots, I am a country girl! I love being able to walk out my door any given day and hear the bleating of sheep. I love being able to turn my Saint Bernards loose on our 10 acres of fenced in land and watch them play. I love being able to go to work and drive by the cemetery where my dad was laid to rest. I love working across the street from the high school I attended so long ago. It warms my heart to take an afternoon stroll and hear the laughter of teens coming out of those school doors. Kentucky is a beautiful place and my home is just a small part of that beauty. This image from Stampendous reminds me of my home county. You see, they are considered the covered bridge capital of Kentucky. There is a great deal of history there. The cemetery my father was laid in contains the remains of one of the Iwo Jima flag raisers immortalized in Rosenberg's famous photo. It's a beautiful place and if you are ever in this part of the world, take it in. I promise you won't be disappointed! I have included a few links at the end so you can check it out yourself! Waxed Paper Technique Card

We St. Bernard lovers are a die-hard breed! (Pun intended) One of my Bernard loving buddies loves to exchange photos and letters about how her dear "Mabel" is doing. So I decided to send her a little note to let her know that I am thinking about her... and maybe include a photo bragging about my babies... :-)

Materials List

For background paper -

Waxed Paper
Glossy Cardstock
Iron
Memento Ink - Rich Cocoa
Towel

Remainder of card -

White, Black and Brown Bazzill Cardstock
Petite Scallop Circle Nestibilites
St. Bernard Stamp - Eat Cake Graphics
Prismacolor Premier Markers - color image
Sentiment - Unknown
Black Ribbon - Unknown

For background -

Crumple a piece of plain wax paper. Smooth out flat and place between two sheets of glossy cardstock, glossy side facing wax paper. Cover with towel. Heat with a hot (dry - no steam) iron. Let cool and remove. Rub Memento Rich Cocoa pad over glossy cardstock in large swathes. Cover to intensity desired and then wipe with paper towel. Cut background accordingly for project. (Here I used it as a background for my Saints card.) Enjoy!
