Exploring Cricut ~ Burlap and Monograms ~

This week I am featuring a home décor project!  I needed a cute garden flag for my front door and since I love burlap I started a search for one.  Unfortunately, the ones I found on Etsy were pretty pricey. I decided to make my own!  So I pulled out my trusty Cricut and went to work!

 

 

I measured out my burlap and cut it to 13 by 17 inches.  I folded one end over about 2 1/4 inches and used a zigzag stitch to secure the sleeve.  I then stitched around the entire project at roughly 1 inch.  I secured Heat & Bond (following manufacturer's instructions) to the back of black felt and used a brayer to secure it to a sticky mat.  I cut the monogram (11 inches) using the multi-cut function to make sure it was cut through.  I then turned the flag over on the back side (on top of the monogram) and used a medium heat iron to heat and secure.  Super easy!  I may try making one of these for my Mom.  SHHH!!!  Don't tell her!  Have a wonderful day!

Exploring Cricut Daily Post ~ Burlap Scrap Wreath

Happy Friday and welcome to another fun day at Exploring Cricut! 

 

I have had a blast this week trying to think outside the box.  It seems like I get in a creative rut!  And that means using my Expression for cards and/or scrapbook layouts.  Am I the ONLY one who does that?  Whew!  So glad you raised your hand too! 

So this week I decided to tackle a home decor project.  And since owls and burlap are all the rage on this side of the Ohio river, I opted to make a wreath...

Specifically a burlap strip wreath with a Cricut Monogram and owl....

And a closeup of the main attraction. Isn't he cute?
 

The monogram is actually a chipboard and card stock sandwich.
I cut both layers at 11 inches (using Base Camp) and glued them together. The owl is 9.25 inches and may be found on the Give a Hoot cartridge. I embossed the white feathers around the eyes with a Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder. Unfortunately, it is a bit difficult to see. But I really love the effect. I think this little gem will go on my front door. (It is sheltered so it shouldn't be an issue.)

There are tons of burlap wreath tutorials on the Internet. This one is made up of scraps (about 1 inch wide) tied in knots on a 16 inch 4 ring wire form. It looks time consuming but really isn't! Those are the best kind of projects right? Thanks for stopping by! I hope to see you again soon!

Exploring Cricut Daily Project

Welcome! Hard to believe that July is half way over! The kids will be back in school and those warm summer days will fade before we know it. For today's project I wanted to capture a bit of that summer feeling all year long. So I am sharing a framed wall hanging for Exploring Cricut.

I love the look of bright red geraniums in the summer. In fact I have a painting of them hanging in my master bedroom. So I thought I would start on a fun project to add a little "zip" to my scrapbook room. I purchased a black frame and 5 x 7 black mat at my local Dollar Store... for a total of $2.00 invested... plus scraps already in my stash...

I removed the glass and cut a piece of left over gingham DP (by Karen Foster) to fit the frame back. I then nestled my matting in the open frame and replaced the covered backing. My Cricut cuts are from a sorely neglected cartridge of mine, Freshly Picked. I bet I can count the number of times I have used this cartridge on one hand.  Somehow I don't feel this will be a problem in the future...

Potted Geraniums - 5 inches - clay, dark red, light red, dark green, light green

Word Geranium & Backing - 1 1/4 inches - dark red, cream

I used the left over geranium blossoms and molded them into my molding mat with a stylus for depth and glued them randomly to the flowers. I thought it made them a little more real. I also shaded all of the pieces with ink for added dimension.

I placed all cricut cuts with dimensional foam for added depth. I liked this so much I think I will have to make more for my wall... a rosebush... petunias... maybe marigolds...
