Happy Sunday to you! I'm popping in to share my card for the weekly sketch challenge at Mojo Monday. I also took the opportunity to play along with Stampin' Sisters in Christ. They are looking for cards that will make them smile! With Valentine's Day almost here and the sun shining in Kentucky, my thoughts have turned to spring! My poor daffodils are peeking out! With the snow we had over the weekend, I feel certain they want to pop back underground! I love the wonder of spring! Each year it feels like a breath of promise to come... of not only warmer but longer days... lightning bugs twinkling in the summer night and days spent visiting outdoors with family and friends... What a wonderful gift it is! The power of Easter and what it symbolizes... the resurrection of our Lord and Savior... His defeat of death and the grave! Spring is a promise. A promise that life can begin anew if we just have faith! Blessings...

Happy Saturday All!! I hope you are all having a great weekend!! Today I am popping in to share this week's Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light challenge!!

This Week’s Challenge-

This week the challenge team would like to see your creations using three items, materials, or techniques beginning with three different letters in the word “HEART”.

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a prize, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! Entries for the prize must be submitted by Friday, February 17th at 8 a.m. EST. One random winner will be chosen and announced next Saturday. If you are not using ODBD stamps, please do not enter more than once. Additional entries without using ODBD stamps will not be commented on or will they qualify for prizes.

While it is not required to use Our Daily Bread Designs images and sentiments on your creations, we would love to see them if you have them. As a way of recognizing those who do use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing 1 to 2 creations to spotlight for our Shining the Light Award. So for my card I used hearts and ODBD's Hope stamp set (H), embossing (E) and ribbon and rhinestones (r). The seam binding is custom dyed... a technique I have not used in a while... LOVE IT! Thanks so much for stopping in!

My dear sister in law passed away a little over a week ago after a battle with a form of fibrosis. But there are signs of life on the farm as well. We are in the midst of lambing. New life has come and unfortunately some have gone. So as it is with the sea... the tide rolls in and then goes back out. For everything there is a season... and thankfully He makes everything beautiful in His time... Blessings...

MOJO226, TSTR99 & SSIC125 ~ Won't You Be My Valentine?

Happy Sunday! Hope you and yours are having a wonderful Sabbath! I'm feeling a tab bit shabby chic! And with this week's Mojo Monday sketch in one hand and the lovely inspiration photo from The Shabby Tea Room, I went right to work. I love working with sketches and this week's Mojo Sketch did not disappoint.

And here is the lovely inspiration photo from The Shabby Tea Room. Participants were asked to use the colors in this photo along with a postal element.

So here's my take...

So for my card I elected to make an itty bitty envelope out of card stock and add a paper punched heart. My card is actually a scalloped card cut using the Winter Woodland Cricut cartridge as I do not own the larger Spellbinders. I cut a slightly smaller circle and added some vintage looking lace I picked up at Michaels around the edges. A pretty red bow, die cut flourish from Cheery Lynn Designs and a Prima Rose add to the shabby feel. The lovely paper die cut is from K & Company's Valentine Sweetheart Paper Pad. So easy to just punch out and go!

One of my favorite crafters is a member of ODBD's design team, Becca Feekan of Amazing Paper Grace. She makes some amazing projects! I left out the ribbon and chose to use embossing on my main panel.

Happy Friday! Thanks so much for stopping by! Today's project is for the daily post at Exploring Cricut. And I used both a new and old favorite!

First the finished product! And you must promise to not tell my hubby! This might be his Valentine Card! ;-)

Sweethearts - Puppy Love - pg. 44 at 3 inches & Heart - pg. 72 at 5 inches

This is an extremely simple card. I created a 6 x 6 card base out of black card stock and trimmed a slightly smaller layer of DP. The heart was secured with dimensional foam. The Saint (bronze coat embossed with Provocraft's D'Vine Swirls folder) stands guard. Notice how I placed his front feet with dimensional tape? My Saint has a blackout layer (black card stock), base (white card stock), brindle pattern (bronze card stock) and off white front feet. How fun is that? Thanks for stopping by and until next time... Isn't it a great set? And now for my card...

Today's card has a vintage feel. I paper punched the edge of the base and added a layer of distressed pink card stock followed by a silver embossed panel. The embossing reminds me of those cool tin panels you see on the ceilings in historic buildings. I stamped my sentiment from Scripture Collection 7 on white card stock and cut/embossed it with Spellbinders. I also added a scalloped layer for interest. I dressed up the corner with a large gardenia blossom gently tipped with a pink Copic marker. A few pink mulberry roses, white die cut flourish and some strategically placed punched leaves finish it off! I think this card is perfect for the season of love... don't you?

Recipe

1 Ribbon - Banner for Sand Castle
2 Cuts - Create a Critter - Crab and Sand Castle
3 Brads - 2 for Crabs Cheeks and 1 Starfish brad near the sentiment

Cuts

Crab - Create a Critter -

1 - - black card stock 2.5 inches
1 - Layer 1 - red card stock 2.5 inches

Sand Castle - Create a Critter -

1 - - dark sand card stock 3 inches
1 - Layer 1 - light sand card stock 3 inches

Directions

1. Cut card stock base (red) 4.25 by 10.5 inches. Score at 5.25 inch mark and fold.
2. Cut cream colored card stock base slightly smaller. (I used 4 x 5 inches.)
3. Cut designer paper layer. (3.75 x 4.75) Distress edges with distressing tool.
4. Adhere DP to extra red card stock and trim closely. (You want a slight edge of red
between this layer and the cream.
5. Adhere layers. Red CS base, cream CS, Red CS trimmed DP layer.
6. Make Cricut cuts as listed above.
7. Edge Sand Castle layers with a light brown distess ink. (I used Ranger Antique Linen)
8. Adhere sand castle layers with dimensional foam.
9. Punch brad holes on top layer of crab and place pink brads. Adhere with dimensional foam
to base.
10. Using Scor Tape adhere ribbon around toothpick. Trim to resemble a pennant.
11. Stamp sentiment on cream CS. Trim to desired size. Add star fish brad and ink edges.
12. Place elements where desired. Sand castle first, pennant, crab and finally your sentiment
panel.

Now on to my take for the challenge:

I love red and white! This is a go to combo for me! I selected some a fun flourish by Cheery Lynn Designs (available at Our Daily Bread Designs) to accent my two heart dies (also CLD). I used a fun paper by K & Company that looks like a newspaper print. I also embossed the top red panel with a fun print. I love those conversation hearts but hate the taste! lol...

I want to say a special good bye today. Our fabbo guest designer, Wanda Cullen, will be finishing her guest term this month. Wanda is a wonderfully gifted and sweet crafter! I will miss you so!!!

Smooches... or Actually Smoochables...

Good morning! Thought I would pop in and share a few projects I had in the hopper. I was recently asked to create a few extra projects at Our Daily Bread Designs. And again I am going the clean and simple route. The image panel and background paper are from Bo Bunny's Smoochables 12 x 12 line. I love how the larger paper has ready made panels... you know, the kind perfect for stamping sentiments in! And I did just that with the above card. I selected a lovely sentiment from ODBD's Little Things set. I added a dash of lace edging and called it a day! Super quick and super fun! The card below was made with the same paper just without an ODBD sentiment. I utiilized one of the fun sayings already on the paper! Thanks as always for reading! Blessings...

Daisy Notecard

Can you believe I did not stamp a single sentiment on the front? It was a struggle! lol... I decided to make a simple note card this week. One of my favorite color combos (black and white) won out! This DP from Bo Bunny is called Enchanted. And it's just that... absolutely lovely! I stamped ODBD's Honeycomb Background on one sheet with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and picked a coordinating paper to stamp ODBD's Daisy image on. Can you believe I didn't color this one? I really think my Copics were screaming at me in frustration... (sigh...)

Hope you are having a wonderful Lord's day! Thought I would pop in to share a card I created this week. I wanted something almost entirely white but wasn't sure how it would turn out. So here it is...

And the inspiration photo from Moxie Fab Trigger Tuesday - Winter Blossoms... I really like the neutrals in this photo. So I tried to use my favorite neutral (white) with some various textured blossoms too!

And a close up of the card...

This one has several layers and used several dies. I cut a 6.75 x 6.75 white base and then used a Martha Stewart punch around the page set to embellish. I then cut a 5.5 x 12 inch base, scoring at the 6 inch line and adhered to the punched layer. I adhered a slightly smaller layer of white card stock with dimensional foam and then cut another layer at 5.25 x 5.25 scoring with my ScorPal at .25 inch increments. I then placed this layer on upside down. I wanted the panel to resemble beadboard. I then placed this with dimensional foam and spritzed the entire thing with Smooch Spritz (Vanilla Shimmer) and Glimmer Mist (Dazzling Diamonds). I placed a rectangular punched panel on top of this. I used Martha Stewart's large lattice punch for that layer. The final layer consists of a Cheery Lynn Designs Die, Spellbinders Picot Edges and a Standard Circles Large surrounding the sentiment. The sentiment was stamped in black and came from Our Daily Bread's Easter Blessings set. A few pearls, crochet flowers, mulberry roses, pearl brads and paper punched leaves finish it off! Now on to my take for the challenge:

The layers are heavily distressed! If there was an edge I could ink, rough up or otherwise destroy, I did! I found some lovely leaf stick pins awhile back and decided to add those for interest. And if you look very closely, you will see Our Daily Bread Designs' Time image stamped on the background paper for added interest! Who says you just have to stamp on the central panel?

Exploring Cricut - Daily Post

Happy Friday! Thanks so much for stopping by! Today's project is for the daily post at Exploring Cricut. I used Straight From the Nest and Storybook on this project.

So here's the card...

and the deets...

Cuts

Straight From the Nest (pg. 35 ) - 4 inches - 3 cuts
(pg. 35 ) - 4 inches - 1 cut
(pg. 35 Layer/Shadow - 4 inches - 2 cuts (red bird)
Storybook (pg. 36 - 3 1/2 inches - 1 cut

1. Create at 5 x 7 card base by cutting cream card stock 10 x 7 inches. Score at 5 inch
point and fold.

2. Cut slightly smaller red card stock mat (4.75 x 6.75). Cut another layer from designer
paper (4.50 x 6.50). Distress designer paper layer with distressing tool and ink. Adhere
to base.

3. Cut card stock and designer paper panel (5 x 3). Adhere.

4. Cut coordinating card stock and DP ribbon banner (2.5 x 4.5). Trim bottom to resemble
ribbon and adhere.

5. Weave red grosgrain ribbon through lace and attach to card base.

6. Assemble birdcage with red bird using dimensional foam and distress edges. Attach to red
panel.

7. Tie bow on top of birdcage and attach red base to card.

8. Stamp sentiment on cream card stock with red card stock. Trim and adhere to card.

A Cup of Tea

Happy Tuesday! Today's card is quick and easy card I cranked out with the help of Our Daily Bread's recent release, Special Blend.

I stamped the doily on ecru card stock and then followed up with the sentiment in a rich shade of red. I then took a pair of trimming scissors and cut the image out. I created the base from a 4 1/2 by 9 inch red strip of card stock. I then scored it at the 4 1/2 inch point and folded to create the card. I layered on some ecru card stock and this lovely gingham print by Graphic 45. I paper punched some ecru card stock and placed it on my card and adhered my sentiment with dimensional foam. I also added some jute and these cute tiny wooden clothespins from the craft section of my local discount chain. Kinda looks like I hung the linens out on the line! Thanks so much for visiting! Exploring Cricut # 8 Happy Birthday - A Color Challenge

Welcome to another bi-weekly challenge at Exploring Cricut! This time we want you to create a Happy Birthday project. But not only must it be a birthday project, it must include the following colors - red, blue, yellow, green and white only! For complete deets please visit Exploring Cricut!

For this project I selected the Cricut cartridge, Birthday Bash. Here are the cuts you will need.

It's Your Birthday (4 inches) pg. 22 Phrase Shift (1 cut yellow)
Ice Cream Cup (Blue 5 inches) pg. 57 IceCream
Ice Cream (White 5 inches) pg. 57 IceCream-s
Ice Cream Topping (White 5 inches) pg. 57 Layer 1 (Embossed with Cuttlebug D'Vine Swirls folder)
Leaf (Green 5 Inches) pg. 57 Layer 1 shift
Cherry & Sprinkles (Red 5 Inches) pg. 57 Layer 2 (cut twice for red cherry layers)
Cherry & Springkles (Blue, Red, Yellow 5 inches) pg. 57 Layer 2 (Additional Sprinkles

Card Base - Red - 5 X 10 inches (scored at 5 inch mark and folded)
Mat - Blue - 4.75 x 4.75, Designer Paper - 4.25 x 4.25 inches
Sentiment Background - Red 2 x 5 inches

1. Cut base out of red card stock (5 x 10 inches). Score at 5 inch point and fold.

2. Adhere blue and designer paper to base.

3. Place red sentiment background on card base. Adhere with dimensional foam.

4. Layer ice cream sundae together beginning with blue base. Add Ice Cream layer.

5. Glue leaf to base. Glue one red cherry to base. Use regular adhesive on both.

6. Emboss frosting with D'Vine Swirls folder and adhere with dimensional foam.

7. Glue "sprinkles" on with pen glue. Adhere final cherry layer with dimensional foam.

8. Place sentiment where desired and glue with dimensional foam.

Hey guys! I'm popping in for a quick hello! Hope you are having a wonderful Sabbath! Today's card was created for a few challenges. I selected the new God's Love set from Our Daily Bread Designs and I used a new technique. (It's new to me...) I covered three of the letters in LOVE with scotch tape and then inked the remaining letter. I removed the tape and then stamped the single letter! That's how I achieved the letters L-O-V-E on a banner! Cool, huh??? Thanks for reading and until next time. Blessings...

Happy Saturday All!! I hope you are all having a great weekend!! Today I am popping in to share this week's Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light challenge!!

This Week’s Challenge-

Winter Word Play

The team challenges you to use three tools or embellishments beginning with three of the letters in the word W-I-N-T-E-R.

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a prize, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! Now on to my take for the challenge:

I created the flowers with tissue paper and Spellbinders Blossoms Three die. The "bud" is actually a few pieces of left over tissue that I scrunched up and adhered to the card. After punching a stack of flowers (and yes, you can cut through several layers of tissue at one time) I ran a paper piercer through the center and placed the rhinestone brad. Then I scrunched, fluffed and moved layers until I achieved the look on each flower I desired. Easy peazy!!

I feel so blessed! Yesterday I was notified not once but TWICE that I had won a prize! Thank you so very much to the kind folks at Mojo Monday for selecting my card, Righteousness in Bronze as one of their Mojo 222 Sketch Champions! What a wonderful way to celebrate the day! And then the wonderful folks at Word Art Wednesday notified me I had won a random drawing for some fabbo stamps from Whimsy Stamps! I'm still smiling! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So today I am popping in to show you a card I put together for a couple of challenges. This one will be entered in Mojo's 223 Sketch Challenge as well as The Shabby Tea Room's Vintage Boudoir Challenge. Take a few moments to check out the links below and please play along!

I created the rolled rose by using a 1 1/2 inch wide swath of burlap. The total length was about 10 inches. The process is pretty much the same as a fabric rolled rose but burlap is much bulkier. You knew I couldn't resist! After all, red is one of my favorite colors! Stands to reason I would crank out another Valentine card or two... or maybe three??? lol...

I received this single stamp by Our Daily Bread Designs a few days ago. This particular scripture is very meaningful to me. And probably not for the reasons you think! Usually people hear this particular New Testament passage mentioned during a wedding or around Valentine's Day. This particular passage took on a special meaning for me on Saturday May 4, 1996. It was on that day that my father's funeral was held after a short battle with cancer.

The central passage of the message that day was this one. Even though my Dad left this world to be with our Lord and Savior, I know his love still remains... Blessings...

And here is the card inspired by that passage...

Happy Monday to you! I'm popping in with a card today I submitted to a SplitCoastStampers challenge. Specifically, it was a technique challenge and participants were asked to incorporate something "wet" in their design. It could be glitter, glimmer mist, anything that gave your creation a sleek or "wet" look. Saturday I received some new stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs and I couldn't wait to get those out and go to work. I treated the cup and saucer with Aleene's Paper Glaze to make it look like bone china hence the "wet" look. Well, the photo does not do it justice. You'll have to trust me that it really looks wet! :-)

The papers are from two different companies but I thought they went well together. I built this card around some fun (and cheap) accents I picked up at Michaels. The flowers and bronze flourish are by Recollections and were 50% off! Gotta love that! I'm kicking myself because I should have picked up more! Sigh... Exploring Cricut - Daily Post - I'm a Little Fussy

Welcome to another post for Exploring Cricut! I decided to be a little fussy today! (And this is where my husband would say "what else is new?") It has nothing to do with a state of mind but a state of scissors! Let's dive right in!

I've been trying to catch up on some of my layouts. And these Easter photos have been languishing for three years. So I decided to pull out some pastel papers and go to work. Here's the details...

1. I cut and matted my white card stock base a bit smaller than the polka dotted base (Doodlebug Sprinkles). The peach layer is 11.5 inches square while the white is 11.25 square.

2. I cut the oblong base (Elegant Edges pg. 67 shift oblong - 10.5 inches) from Three Bug's in a Rug April Showers Gathering paper. Adhere to white base slightly off center.

3. Fussy cut (roughly cut out flowers) from American Crafts Dear Lizzy Spring Flowering Fields Paper.

4. Adhere photos to base with adhesive and use mini craft clothespins to "attach" to base.

5. Add fussy cut flowers where desired with dimensional foam.

6 Cut Happy Easter (Easter 2010 cartridge at 1.75 inches) base from remaining Three Bugs in a Rug Designer paper. Cut Happy Easter layer from white (1.75 inches) and adhere with dimensional foam for depth. Add to bottom of page.

7. Add Zva Pearl Butterfly Flourish.

8. Take a black fine tip pen and doodle flourishes to your hearts content!

Don't you just love black and white? I do. It always makes a card seem elegant! Today's card was created with Bo Bunny's Enchanted paper along with one of my new favorite classics from Our Daily Bread Designs, Simple Things. I stamped my sentiment directly on the DP with Versafine Onyx Black and then stamped this ever so cute bee on white card stock. I cut him out, slathered his wings with Diamond Stickles and popped him up with dimensional foam! Another fun and fast project! Thanks so much for stopping by! Blessings...

Exploring Cricut - Challenge #7

Welcome to another fun challenge at Exploring Cricut. Today's assignment -

Think Winter Wonderland! Create a card, layout or papercraft creating a winter scene or activity

And my entry...

The cut is from Celebrate with Flourish. I cut two base pieces (silver cardstock) at 5.75 inches. I then placed my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder over one snowflake and dry embossed. I adhered the embossed layer on top of the other with dimensional foam for depth. I cut both skates out of white card stock and added them with dimensional foam as well. Then I grabbed some white and gray baker's twine and tied a fun "lace" for my top skate. The distressed designer paper is by October Afternoon (specifically their Farmhouse Collection) and the remaining paper is plain card stock. I added a few pieces of twine and Zva pearl flourishes before placing my assembled skates. I felt like this card needed some sort of sentiment so I pulled out my Warm Wishes set and stamped the sentiment with CTMH Grey Wool Ink. So fun and so cute! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas season! Hard to believe a new year is upon us! It took me the first six months of 2011 to remember what year I was in! lol...

Today I am playing along with the weekly sketch challenge at Mojo Monday! And I pulled out some new Our Daily Bread Design stamps you will see January 1st! Kelley has some wonderful designs up her sleeve!!!

I pulled out two new stamps and an ODBD die available the first of the month. I used God's Love (sentiment and base image) plus the 2 Step Butterfly (you are gonna LOVE this one) and the coordinating Butterfly 2 Die! All the sets are AMAZING! TSTR93 "A Kraft-y Christmas"

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope this post finds you spending some quality time with those you love. The Christmas season is a wonderful one and as I write this post I am finishing up a few details at home before the step-children and their children arrive!

This post is for this week's Shabby Tea Room Challenge. The ladies are using the following inspiration photo...

and Char asks participants to create a card or project inspired by the above photo and USE KRAFT, RED, NEWSPRINT, SILVER AND A STAR!

And my take on the challenge...

I used Echo Park's Season's Greeting collection for my designer paper along with some kraft and black card stock touches. I edged one panel with a dab of ecru lace and then placed a double tied red satin ribbon on top. The silver frame is actually an ornament I picked up at a local Dollar Store in the last few weeks. I cut out the plastic layer and then cut a piece of black card stock to adhere to the backing. I embossed the sentiment (from Our Daily Bread Designs' Warm Wishes set) in silver. After placing the frame and sentiment on my card I found a chip board gold star which I distressed and added to the top of the frame. A few sprigs of paper punched greenery finish it off! Super easy and fun to do...

Hard to believe that Christmas is only a week away! And with so many things going on I almost let Mojo Monday get away from me. Here is this week's sketch...

And my take on it...

The designer papers are from October Afternoons' Farmhouse collection. The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread Designs' Apple Seed set. I distressed the bottom DP layer with my Making Memories Distressing Tool and added a touch of gray ink around the edges. I also inked up a round glass and added a few "water rings" with the ink. I couldn't get a clear photo but they look great! The die is by Cheery Lynn Designs and is called Fanciful Flourish. I also added a pearl stick pin in the lace strip for interest. Welcome to another Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light Challenge! Do we have some fun for you!! This week is all about word play...

Use each letter of the word in NOEL to create your card.
For example...

N- Nestabilities or the word NOEL
O- Ovals, Our Daily Bread Designs, circles (the shape of an O)….
E- Embossing, envelopes or evergreens to name a few...
L- Lace or layers...

Here's my card for the week...

And how did I incorporate the word Noel?

N - Nestabilities - Layered Poinsettia, Labels 20 & Ovals Large
O - Oval Nestabilities, Our Daily Bread Designs Stamp - Christmas Blessings
E - Embossing - Stampendous Gold Embossing Powder (sentiment), Evergreens (punched evergreens)
L - Lace (Gold) & Layers

The sentiment panel was created using Labels 20 for the outside and a SB Large Oval for the center. The oval panel has a double thickness of dimensional foam for added "lift." The panel needed something "extra" so I improvised and pulled out some gold cord which I affixed to the edges. The poinsettia was created using Spellbinders' Layered Poinsettia die. I LOVE this die. And on this card I pulled green and yellow Flower Soft fibers from my Autumn and Sweet Mixes to create the centers. I added a few paper punched evergreen sprigs and two gold jingle bells. The sentiment I selected for today's card is in Our Daily Bread Designs' Christmas Blessings set.

Blue Christmas

Clean and simple... This card may not look like it but this one was easy peazy! Sometimes you just need to let the paper and stamps work their magic! I started out with some classics, Bo Bunny and Our Daily Bread Designs. I used paper from the new BB collection, Snowfall. I cut the circle (under the Spellbinder Fleur de Lis die) directly from the paper. Now how simple is that? I then cut two white fleur de lis die and layered them to look like snow. The focal sentiment is from ODBD's Christmas Door. I stamped it on with Versamark and then added white embossing powder for added depth. Simple, colorful and delightful to do... all the things a papercrafter like me adores!

MOJO218 - A Zebra Christmas...

Bet that got your attention! Thought you might enjoy another one of my "unconventional" Christmas cards! This time I threw in some zebra print! This one is going over to a sketch challenge at Mojo Monday.

And here's my take on it...

I purchased this lovely paper from a dear friend who sells Close to My Heart. The set is called Roxie. I also used Bazzill for the poinsettia leaves and sprig punches. Don't you just adore this sentiment? This is from the new set Simple Things at Our Daily Bread Designs. I just keep pulling this set out for everything! The poinsettia was made with Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia. I couldn't find just the right Flower Soft for the center so I pulled green out of a Sweet Pea mix and some yellow out of the Autumn mix and glued them to the center. A Zva flourish and a tiny silver jingle bell finish the look!

ODBDSLC88 - We Three Kings

Welcome to another week at ODBD's Shining the Light Challenge. This week Chris has created a sketch for you to do...

And I am deeply honored because this sketch was inspired by a card I did a while back that you can see here.

And here is another interpretation...

This is a deeply personal card for me. As I shared with some of the ladies I design with, this is a little more "rustic" than what I am used too. I wanted to incorporate ODBD's We Three Kings stamp set into a card this year. When I saw this scripture, I immediately knew what I wanted to do. I selected purple card stock to represent the Magi and the greatest King of all, Jesus. I used touches of gold card stock (cut with Spellbinders Ironworks Motifs) to give a regal feel. I embossed the star and scripture in gold. And on the base I adhered distressed kraft paper and then some rough cut burlap tied with jute. I wanted this to represent the trappings that may have been on those beasts of burden and/or in the manger that day... It's very masculine and full of symbolism. I hope you take a few minutes this week to pull out some of your stamps and play along! I look forward to seeing what you do with this sketch! Blessings...

Exploring Cricut and a Shabby Moose

I must admit, I am a bit obsessed! John and I visited the Upper Peninsula this summer and on both trips I desperately wanted to see a moose! One day we drove 2 hours to a state park where they are known to be with no luck! I saw a moose head in an exhibit but NO LIVE ones!!! I have become quite fascinated. On a recent jaunt into southern Ohio, I found a lovely primitives shop called The Shabby Moose and well, I just HAD to stop... And when my mind turned to this challenge a business card from that establishment caught my eye and the moose... err... race was on!!!

Cricut Cuts

Moose - Give a Hoot Cartridge - pg 74 (5 inches)- 1 piece
Trees - Campout - Trees and Tree Layers (7 inches) i piece trees and trees layer
Pinecones - Preserves - pg 24 (1 inch and 1 1/4 inches) several cuts
Branch (at top under bow) Give a Hoot Cartridge - Accent - pg 75 - 1 piece 2 1/2 inches, 1 piece (flipped) same size

1. Cut the DP slightly smaller than your bag. Distress edges. Adhere to bag. Splatter ink
on bag with toothbrush. (I used Memento Rich Cocoa refill.)
2. Cut Cricut items.
3. Pinecone - Bend each at center adhering in layers with a glue gun. Let cool.
4. Adhere trees and layers to bag. Make sure to use dimensional foam under the second
layer for lift. Distress and or ink edges if you like.
5. Cut ribbon and tie around moose neck. I glued it and placed a small safety pin for fun.
6. Glue greenery cuts to top by handle. Tie bow from ribbon and attach with glue.
7. Slather edges of pinecone with glitter glue and sprinkle coarse glitter (crystal) over
cone. Let dry.
8. Once the cone has set up add by ribbon with hot glue gun.
9. Stamp sentiment on tag and tuck/glue behind pinecone.

The challenge this rotation is the same as last rotations. We are in crunch time for mailings and gift giving. So, we are creating MORE Christmas cards, gift packaging, gift ideas or anything festive you can think of to share with a Christmas theme! Has inspiration ever struck you in the middle of the night? It hit me a few nights ago. It may have had more to do with the hacking cough I have had for a week but I will lay it on inspiration... lol... So after looking at my clock for the umpteenth time and finally deciding to get up at 2:30AM I wandered into my craft room. Oddly, I was wired! (And that I will blame on the cough syrup...) So I pulled out a new paper pad from Simple Stories and started to play. I found the base layer first and then decided I had to add in the houndstooth and after MUCH debate settled on the red winter sayings layer. I pulled out a Sizzix die for my flourish and holly plus some spellbinders to frame my fabulous verse from ODBD's Christmas Blessings. A little jute and a button from my button jar finished it all off! I'm really liking this mixing patterned paper journey I'm on... This sentiment just says it all! It is the simple things that make life so extraordinary. Snowflakes for example... Each one is unique and beautiful. Of course, if you are looking at several inches of those unique creations... you might feel differently! lol... Think back to your childhood. Do you remember how we looked forward to snow? I remember wishing for just one more snow day! Back then it was all about living in the moment. Tests and other school chores could wait but enjoying the joys of winter could not. A closer view... the ribbon is already printed on the paper... and the snowflake... punched out with a circle punch and added with dimensional foam... easy peazy... And look at how pretty that sentiment looks stamped on the panel! I love coordinating papers. They do all the work for me!

Exploring Cricut - Let's Take a Sleigh Ride...

Or you could use a sled... This week's challenge at Exploring Cricut is all about the wind in your hair and preferably no trees in your path!

And here's my project for the week...

I decided to make a tag this week. And with monogramming being all the rage right now, I decided to make some monogrammed tags for Christmas. This one belongs to our grand-daughter Gloria. Since her papa is a BIG University of Kentucky fan I went with a Big Blue theme.

The cuts are from Winter Woodland. And the specifics...

Sleigh & Shadow - White Card Stock - 4 inches (pg. 53) - 1 piece each
Sleigh top - Blue - 4 inches (pg. 53)- embossed with Cuttlebug Folder Snowflakes - 1 piece
Sleigh Trim - Silver - 4 inches (pg. 53) - 2 pieces
Holly - Red & Green - 4 inches (pg. 53) - 1 piece green holly, 2 pieces red berries
Shadow G - Silver - 2 1/2 inches (pg. 56) - 1 piece
Letter G - Blue - 2 1/2 inches (pg. 56) - 1 piece

I cut all of my pieces. I glued the shadow and white sleigh base together. I ran the top of my sleigh (the blue piece) through the Cuttlebug using my Snowflakes folder. I stamped the back of the tag with one of my favorite scriptures (you could also put a Christmas sentiment here) and then glued it to the white base. I glued one silver trim layer directly to my sleigh and then used dimensional foam to add the second silver layer. I then applied 1 of the red pieces to the green holly. I then placed this on the corner of the sleigh with dimensional foam. I placed another tiny piece of foam on the 2nd red berry piece and applied it over the first. I glued the blue letter G on the silver base and adhered the entire unit on the sleigh with 2 pieces of dimensional foam layered on top of each other. This made it really stand out!

ODBDSLC87 Bookmark It! & A Challenge

Welcome to another fun Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light Challenge. This week we are asking for bookmarks! Picture above is the front of my submission this week. I used the new ODBD Simple Things set! Don't you just love it??? The bookmark is actually a 4 x 4 piece of white card stock scored and folded. I edged the bottom with a paper punch and my ScorPal. A piece of My Mind's Eye DP and some lovely custom dyed seam binding add a nice springy punch! The image (colored with Copics and cut out with ODBD's matching die) was mounted on an embossed Spellbinders Labels Eighteen die cut.

The back, pictured below, includes one of my favorite Bible verses also included in the Simple Things set! Let me just tell ya... And now for my second card... I created this one for this weeks Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge #117... I have also entered this card in Simon Says Stamp's Challenge Anything Goes!

I embossed snowflakes (ODBD Peace & Joy) on the background panel using an opaque white embossing powder. The pattern is very random. Just like snowflakes! I stamped my image (ODBD Sing For Joy) on Copic compatible card stock and colored it. I then cut and framed it with Spellbinders Ovals Large and Classic Scalloped Ovals Small. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black on the bottom and added this fab plaid ribbon on the bottom. So simple and so fun...

I LOVE glass blown ornaments and when I spotted this image on Rosemary Dennis' blog I had to get the set! If you haven't been over to Rosemary's blog, please do. She makes some AMAZING cards!

Today's card is pretty simple (for me...)... Hee, hee... I used some cute paper from K & Company (Elizabeth Brownd Visions of Christmas.) I added some gold paper for added bling and after coloring Santa's coat trim I threw on a nice dusting of Diamond Stickles. I used the SB Classic Oval Large for cutting, embossing and lightly edging the image with Desert Sand ink. I split the background Spellbinders Ironworks Motif in two and mounted the pieces to the back of my image. The sentiment was embossed using Versamark and Ranger's Queen Gold Embossing Powder directly on the plaid DP. One more Christmas card down and 40 more to go! :-)

A Rustic Christmas

Yes, this card is a little darker than my usual fare. Honestly though if you took a peek in my home you would see a very different story from the pinks, blues and "frilly" things I prefer in card making. I guess that means I am a well rounded individual and my inner girly girl is trying to get out!!!!! So I wanted to share a little peek at some of the little touches in my home this season. And maybe you can see why I picked the dark colors I did....

The scale belonged to my Dad. He used it on our farm for various things. After my Dad passed away, my Mom remained on the farm for eleven more years. Finally after 42 years of living in the same place it came time to move Mom closer to me. We sorted, packed and pitched countless items. Many things went to auction. But for some reason I could not part with this. It seemed such a real reminder of who my Dad was... ever practical and attentive to detail. So I salted it away for another 4 years before finally pulling it out. And where did it land? It has a place of prominence on my bathroom counter with a lovely sprig of faux cedar and a distressed timepiece in the center. And you know what? I love it there... So now you can see why frilly things are so different for me. I like rust, prim, black and country...

Well it's time for another fabbo challenge at The Shabby Tea Room. This week I am truly honored to be submitting a card as a guest designer. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing! Have you seen some of the amazing things those ladies come up with? Wow! So while I shake my head in wonderment you can check my humble submission below. The inspiration photo for this challenge is above. The crew is looking for creations with

White or Cream, Silver and Glitter

And here's mine...

The base is simple white card stock. I then cut a slightly smaller layer and paper punched the edges with an eyelet punch. I then lightly covered the eyelet ends with glitter glue and poured on the crystal coarse glitter glue. After letting it set, I shook off the excess and added it to the base with dimensional foam. The next layer is a shiny piece of silver card stock. I added a ribbon trim along the bottom that has silver and crystal hanging beads. The final base layer is a 5 x 5 piece of white card stock. I attached woven bias tape, securing it on the back with simple scotch tape. I bought a package of the Wright's Bias Tape Single Fold for this project. After placing it with dimensional foam I pulled out my dies. The silver base for the sentiment is from Spellbinders Holly Motifs. I stamped the sentiment in black and cut it with Spellbinders Standard Circles Large. The white rose is a cut from Cricut Flower Shoppe. I added a pearl in the center and a few paper punched branches (white) and silver leaves (Spellbinders Foliage). The stick pin is one I made with a pearl topped pin and some beads I had on hand. This lovely sentiment is from an upcoming release at Our Daily Bread Designs called aptly, Simple Things. It will be available on December 1st! Thanks for stopping by! The Shabby Tea Room #89 - Colors of Nature

This week's challenge at The Shabby Tea Room is called the Colors of Nature. Participants have been asked to use the above photo for inspiration! Wow! Aren't the colors amazing? And I just love flowering cabbage! I sure wish I could figure out how to do this arrangement for my front door!

And here is my very humble interpretation...

The base is kraft paper and I have added a layer of distressed Basic Grey paper. Underneath I added a little ecru trim from a set I purchased at Hobby Lobby. I then added a rich red bow. The beauty of this? It came off of a soap and lotion set I bought for my bathroom! I snagged that and added it to my stash immediately! I then added some artificial leaves I found in a huge bag at my local dollar store for you guessed it... $1! The button is a wooden one I stained with a Copic marker (V04) taking pains to make it look rough. I pulled gold wire through it and wrapped it around a small pencil for added interest. The final touches include one of my favorite ODBD sets (Harvest Blessings) stamped on kraft with a dark orange ink! ODBDSLC86 Recipe Challenge - Ribbon, Lace & Glitter

I love a good recipe! And today the challenge team is working with three essential card ingredients (especially at Christmas time).... Ribbon, Lace and Glitter...

And let me just tell ya alot of glitter managed to make it on my floor for this one...

For the snowflake I used 3 layers of the SB Create a Flake One plus a tiny negative star piece I had left from one of the original cuts. I applied glitter glue to each layer and dusted them with crystal coarse glitter. After letting them cure I adhered the layers together with dimensional glue dots. The final snowflake was placed on a Picot Edge Circle cut. I also used a paper crimper on the bottom layer of white card stock for some added interest! For all my friends in the United States, Happy Thanksgiving! I will be spending this one with my step-son's family. We are looking forward to turkey and all the trimmings, parades and maybe a football game or two! After the mess is gone many people will pull out the paper and start making their Friday shopping list. Of course many have already scoped out the online ads weeks ago!

There are so many things to be thankful for at the Ulrich home this year. And most certainly one of mine is the chance to spend time today with family and friends. We are all healthy and happy! What a blessing that is these times! I am thankful to live in a country where I can do what I love and say what I wish. There is no fear of persecution or retaliation for being a Christian. And most importantly, I am so thankful for my Lord who gave his life on Calvary for me.

Exploring Cricut - Let's Talk Turkey!

Can you believe Thanksgiving is only a few days away? Yikes! This year has flown by (no pun intended...) There are so many things I am thankful for this year. I am thankful for my family, wonderful career and I am thankful for you! I have met some wonderful folks while blogging the last few years. Your wonderful comments, support and prayers mean so much! Thank you for being you! I pray this Thanksgiving will find you surrounded by loved ones sharing and creating family memories!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Exploring Cricut has issued a challenge for us to talk turkey! The design team was asked to create a project using our favorite Cricut turkey. It is time for ODBD Stamping In Time Challenge (SNTODBD48)! The assignment is to use Our Daily Bread Design stamps. The challenge this rotation is to create Christmas cards, gift packaging, gift ideas or anything festive you can think of to share with a Christmas theme!

This card was really pretty easy to do. First I selected two nesting dies from the Heirloom Ornaments set. I centered the smallest one on my plaid layer and cut. I then nested the two together on the green DP and cut my ornament "frame." I placed the frame on the plaid layer and after placing this on top of the red layer, centered and stamped my sentiment. I sprinkled a few pearls at the bottom to highlight the plaid pattern along with one simple pearl at the top. Easy peasy....

Every Lady Needs Some Pearls

Thanks so much for stopping by! It has been a wonderful week! In just a few, I will be enjoying an entire week of vacation. Usually, I spend the week of Thanksgiving in a dead run. And last year was no exception! Yet, when it was all said and done my beloved Christmas decorating had gone to the wayside. This year I will do better! And hopefully a week off will help me accomplish that goal!

There are so many things to do this time of year. Our home includes some special touches around the holidays. I always enjoy taking the items out of storage and reliving the memories that go with each one. Many of the ornaments for our tree were purchased on special vacations. It is so nice to relive being at the top of the Empire State Building, exploring the French Quarter of New Orleans or walking the beaches of Amelia Island, Florida. There are also ornaments that are special to John's sons including wooden ornaments they made as children and items that were on their family tree before their Mother's untimely passing... These are the special items that make our place a HOME.

So with today's card I wanted to do something feminine and even nostalgic. I wanted something that screamed elegance, grace and beauty. Naturally it had to have pearls! Nothing dresses up an outfit like pearls! And this beauty is no exception... Over the last few months I have been working with a new blog called Exploring Cricut. And it really has challenged me to use those cartridges I already have! For this card I utilized Forever Young and Storybook. Both are very chic and girly-girl!!! So perfect for those feminine cards we all need to whip up!

So when you are dressing up your home this season don't forget to give yourself a little attention too! Pamper yourself just a little...

Dress Form - pg 49 (5 in)
Dress - pg 43 (6.5 in) white; layer DP

Storybook

Doily - pg 36 (5 in)

1. Form card base with 6 x 12 in white card stock base. Score at 6 in and fold.
2. Cut designer paper 5.75 x 5.75 in and adhere to base.
3. Cut Cricut cuts as noted above. Emboss dress (designer paper layer) with embossing folder.
4. Adhere dress layers together. Loop satin ribbon around form lightly gluing in place.
5. Adhere dress to form using dimensional foam. Glue pearls around neck of form.
6. Cut doily. Stamp sentiment on Wilton doily and adhere to Storybook doily base.
7. Place doily and form on card as shown. Add random trimming as desired.

I find myself asking this more lately... Where is it??? So I decided the best place to find my mojo would be playing along at Mojo Monday. After all they have some awesome sketches and I figured that would be a fun way to stretch my creativity! And it certainly helps to have some great products in your craft stash...

Kinda bold colors for me! But when you have coordinating paper pads... they take all the work out of it! The designer paper I selected is by My Mind's Eye (Rosy). I did use one sliver of Webster's Pages (hounds tooth) which came from the Hollywood Vogue & WonderFALL combo pack. I created the circle using my Cricut George Cartridge (4.75 inch circle cut).

So hopefully this will be the start of a surge in mojo...

Exploring Cricut - Exploring Our Heritage

I must confess scrapbooking has gone to the wayside for me. I am AT LEAST three years behind on photos. And honestly, I don't really want to know just HOW FAR BEHIND I am. It just might scare me! So when Diane asked me to join the Exploring Cricut team I promised myself I would do more pages. So counting Monday's post I now have 2 pages done! Whoo hoo!!! Now for most of you that is not a big deal but for me that is HUGE!!!! Praying I will get back in the groove again and get some of this stuff done...

Have you ever wondered why we do this? Hey, I'm preaching to the choir... OF COURSE you know why we do this!! I suspect, like me, you have had people say... "I don't have time for that stuff..."

Several years ago my last great aunt died. She was well in her 90's. She was the sole survivor of a large brood. She could tell stories about riding in a wagon (not station mind you) to town. She and her husband never had any children. And as the last remaining child, she had become the caretaker of family lore and legend. Before her estate sale, the family was called in to gather any photos they might want. Many of the nieces and nephews, including my father, had already passed on. When I walked into her living room, I was astounded to find a plethora of photos, all jumbled together, many unlabeled and unfortunately unknown. I gathered the few faces I knew, mine, my father, aunts and uncles and bundled then into an envelope. But then a stack caught my eye. There were a few tin type photos from the late 1800s and one that appeared almost to be painted. It drew me in. Somehow the faces looked familiar to me. As I peered at those images in a velvet case I noticed a small scrap of paper sticking out of the corner. I pulled it out to find in dear Aunt's handwriting -- "mama & papa." I held in my hand the image of my great grandfather and grandmother! And how easily those precious images could have been tossed away or sold in a lot in the auction! Then I started digging. And I found labels on the tin types! Here were post Civil War photos of my great great grandfather and grandmother!

So this is why we do it! So someday our photos won't be discarded and our family will know all about the people, places and events that shaped our lives. And just so you know... these are scanned images of those two sweet faces in my lineage. Blessings to you and make sure to cherish and PRESERVE those memories...

I tied each of the photos on the tree with thin satin ribbon (burgundy.) The background paper is actually a paper bag that I crumpled up, flattened out and adhered to black card stock. A few weeks ago when I traveled to a craft festival one of the stores put my item in this shopping bag. I told the ladies I traveled with I couldn't tear it as I would use it on a card. They thought I was crazy! But it looks pretty good on this page... (or at least I think so...)

This set is particularly poignant for me this year as one of my co-workers was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She will be undergoing surgery this week.

It amazes me how much we have learned about breast cancer over the years. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in her late thirties. At that time (the 1950's) she was given one option - total mastectomy, radiation and chemotherapy. If you doubt how much progress has been made listen to this... chemo and radiation were HIGHLY experimental at that time. My aunt lost not only her breast but complete and total use of one arm. The radiation was so destructive that the nerves in her shoulder, arm and hand on that side were obliterated. Until the day she left to be with our Lord her arm hung limply at her side... another reminder of the battle she waged...

So let's say we have come a LONG way yet the race goes on... But most importantly ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD.....

Exploring Cricut - Challenge #2

Welcome to another challenge at Exploring Cricut! Diane has asked us to create something using the Cricut Celebrations cartridge candy cut on page 111. Who would have thought candy could be tough??? lol... I elected to do a Christmas scrapbook page. This particular page celebrates the first Christmas we had our dear granddaughter, Gloria. She had arrived a few short weeks earlier from her home country, Guatemala. As you can tell from the photos she loves picture books almost as much as we love her!

So here's the project...

And a closeup of the candy...

I cut the candy at 4 3/4 inches tall (white for the candy itself and red or green for the blackout image). I placed the cut image on top of each blackout image. I then applied a tiny pop dot to the left over "inside" of each "candy" cut and placed it on top of the center, taking care to twist it so you could still see the blackout red or green backing. I then cut pieces of wax paper (yes, the kind from your kitchen) and attached it to the back of each candy with tape. I then took pieces of baker's twine and gathered each end of the wax paper around the tapered end of the cut. The final step... cut each end of wax paper with pinking shears.

Today's card is an experiment! And it is late... Not always a good combination! lol I decided a few days ago to create something for a color challenge. Well in the "process" of creating, I fiddled with the card too much and missed the entry deadline... (big sigh)...

And I know there is a lesson I should take from this and while I ponder that, I will show you my card...

The flower is actually made up of 4 satin fabric circles cut with Spellbinders and burnished lightly over a tea light. It makes the edges turn up. (oh so cute) I cut two layers of gold netting using Spellbinders Blossoms Three and placed those underneath. And the very bottom layer... one of my lace collars... I took 8 segments of triangular lace and layered them on a brad to create the base for my flower. A few pearls in the center... a flourish on the DP and one of my favorite sayings from ODBD's recent release, The Good Seed. I'm thinking this would make a lovely yellow daffodil come spring... Snow is falling at Exploring Cricut...

Oh, the weather outside is frightful and the fire is so delightful...

Ok... maybe I'm pushing it a little bit. But I couldn't resist pulling out one of my favorite Cricut cuts for this project... SNOWFLAKES!!! I love paper snow but the real stuff... YUCK! So today's project, created for Exploring Cricut, allows me to indulge myself in that desire for snow without the danger of frostbite...

Today's project...

1. Cut your snowflakes (white card stock) in multiples of four! The largest on this card is
3.75 inches. Then adhere each layer together until your snowflakes feel more like
chipboard. Let them cure!

2. When the layers have completely dried, coat each snowflake in glitter glue. Spritz
generously with coarse glitter. Shake excess off and let glitter set up.

3. Create a card base with a 6 x 12 inch piece of card stock.

4. Cut peach card stock 5 3/4 inch square. Distress edges with distressing tool and ink
generously with Distress Ink (Tattered Rose).

5. Using sewing machine to stitch DP (5 1/2 inch square, distressed and inked) to pink card
stock with zig zag stitch.

6. Affix pearl flourish to DP (Prima Swirls Pink).

7. Stamp sentiment (ODBD Peace & Joy Set) on white card stock. (Ink - CTMH Cotton Candy)

8. Layer sentiment on pink card stock, trim and cut to desired length.

9. Arrange glittered snowflakes to card base with dimensional foam. Place sentiment on card.

And voila! You have a lovely, elegant, glitzy card to celebrate the Christmas season! Thanks for visiting! Blessings to you...

Inaugural Challenge at Exploring Cricut

Welcome dear friends to the very first challenge at the new blog, Exploring Cricut! I am so excited to be a member of this new team headed by my dear friend Diane. The team is excited to bring you creations focused on using those cartridges that sometime lanquish on the shelf. This week's challenge will focus on the Close To My Heart Cartridge, Art Philosophy. You will need to creative a project using Square 3 (page 43 of your manual) and a minimum of two flowers from this cartridge! Complete details may be found on our blog, Exploring Cricut. Don't forget to link your project there on Mr. Linky! And check out what the rest of the DT has created.

Here's my creation...

I created this project as a gift. The frame is a simple black one I purchased from my local retailer. I removed the glass and matting and then cut a 5 x 7 piece of card stock. I created a slightly smaller red card stock layer carefully distressing the edges with a distressing tool and ink before adhering to the bottom layer. The final layer (cut 1/4 inch smaller) is DP by Colorbok. I distressed and inked all edges and then crinkled it up, flattened it back out and adhered it to the card stock! (Super way to take our your frustrations... wink, wink) I cut one Square 3 (3 1/2") and another slightly smaller (3 1/4").
I distressed them with ink and before putting them together with dimensional foam stamped a scripture stamp on the top layer. I attached a swath of lace on the card stock base and followed up with a jet pearl flourish. I then placed my sentiment on top with more foam tape. I cut the spiral flowers at 3" and 2 1/2". I took care to roll these up and secured them with hot glue. The leaves are cuts from Storybook. (I ran them through my paper crimper to get texture...) At this point I placed my card base in the frame and glued it in the frame. And finally, I placed my roses, leaves and a few more jet pearls strategically and tied a satin knot bow that I secured to one side! I think this will make an awesome gift for someone! Welcome to another Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light Challenge! This time around the team has been asked to create our own embellishments. Think outside the box! Possible ideas include custom flowers, dyed ribbon, hat pins... let your imagination go wild!

I created the flower with satin ribbon and added one of my custom lace collars below. Now I want to see what you can do!

Fruit, News & a Challenge...

Today's card is for a challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ. The ladies have asked participants to create something using a fruit theme! I must say that apples are one of my favs. There must be something to that old saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away. It seems like when I eat apples regularly, I feel better!

My card is a z fold card. The inner panel has some lovely DP showcasing my fruit of choice. The outside features a Cricut cut with one of Our Daily Bread Designs recent releases, Apple Seeds, embossed in gold. I had to put a few black pearls on the corner to kinda mimic seeds. And if you look real close you will see the leaf is crinkled! I had to run it through the crimper... lol...

Felt Gardenia

I love making my own embellishments! When I started scrappin' several years back you had to buy everything! And that got REALLY expensive! A few months ago I tried my hand at making flower embellies with tissue paper and spellbinders. I wasn't happy with the look. Last night, I decided to try cutting a square of felt with my Spellbinder Blossoms Three. I folded each section in quarters and then stitched them together with a blanket stitch. I adhered the 4 quarters on a paper punched circle. I then cut 4 more smaller blossoms and carefully stitched them on top. For the final touch, I popped on a large adhesive pearl I picked up at Michaels. It kinda looks like a gardenia! And it is so scrunchy! I think it will fit in a fat envelope nicely!

Flowers Fade...

Don't you just love fall? There's a crisp feeling in the air and the leaves are changing. And this process reminds me of the beautiful order in our world. The lush green leaves of summer must give way to a vibrant parade of colors before fading away. This process leads to winter. A time when the earth slumbers, renews and prepares for the emergence of spring! And we all know just how beautiful spring can be! Kinda makes me OK with snow... lol...

Seriously, when I put this card together I pulled out one of my favorite scriptures, Isaiah 40:8. Our very presence on this earth is just for a season. And even though like the leaves, our time on earth is limited, there are certain things that will always remain. Like the values, lessons and memories we pass on to our family and friends. The things we share with others does have an impact. And what better legacy could we leave than a love of and appreciation for the word of God? Blessings...

I have officially lost my mind! If you read my post earlier today you might have noticed a slight problem... I had only a photo and product list... Can you say silly girl??? I am currently at an HR conference and thought (and I do say THOUGHT) all of my posts were neatly prepared and timed! Wrong! So I frantically ran to the computer station to update my post! And 30 minutes ago I checked my phone to find (YIKES) my update did not take. So, I am online paying $5.00 for an hour of internet service to finish this. Sigh... Oh, well... since I've already paid for it I guess I need to surf...

A Cup of Joe

I REALLY love coffee! I love it so much in fact I have been known to drink several cups a day. Anytime hubs and I are near our favorite bookstore I have to stop in and get a cup of java! So when this recent Cricut Lite came out (Love You a Latte), I knew it would be coming home with me. I opened the case and poured over the images. (NO pun intended...) And they are SO cute! But this one continued to draw my eye...

And so it became the front of my card. Hubs and I have had some of the best conversations over a cup of coffee and I thought this card would be perfect to show him how much I care!

And then there is the inside... (Using one of my new favorite ODBD stamp sets, Scripture Series 2.) It sums up how I feel about the time we share together so nicely...

And here is my entry for the week...

This card is definitely a little "dark." I distressed the DP with my trusty distressing tool and then inked it up with Memento Tuxedo Black. To add a little interest, I stamped the DP with the Ecclesiastes Scripture BG stamp included in this set. The seam binding was custom dyed and scrunched to give it that worn look. The coloring actually has a mottled effect! I just love how it turned out! Be sure link your creation on ODBD's blog and be sure to visit the other designers this week and leave them some love!

He is Good...

How did you feel this morning? Did you wake up grumbling or were you ready to take on the world? Shamefully, I must admit I DO NOT DO mornings... which is quite a quandary when you have to report to work at 7AM... Each morning begins with me staggering out of bed, noting some new ache or pain and wondering why, oh why must the morning start off this way? Sound familiar????

But the truth is we have a choice! Way back in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve made decisions. Their choice, sin, had painful consequences. And regrettably the world has never been the same.

I made a conscience decision to grumble instead of praising God for another day of life. So today I CHOOSE to be thankful. Because God is good... ALL the time! Thanks for reading...

I am a child of the 70s. Now, there is a fashion decade that should NEVER be revisited! My mom made many of my clothes. And when I spied this chevron paper... Wow! I was transported to a time when I had a lovely pair of elastic polyester chevron pattern pants. I think they were even bell bottoms... Now, now, don't laugh! I know you had some too! We were just the cat's pajamas... (Ok, maybe that is 50s lingo... but you know what I mean...)

I'm taking one final day to wind down before returning to work. John and I spent some quality time visiting with the kids this weekend. Michael left late this afternoon... so now I am taking some time for me... And you know what that means! Projects!!!! I can't believe how many projects I have completed over the last few days! I think the forced crafting sabbatical sparked my creativity!

Today's card is for Mojo Monday. I found this paper pad recently online and decided to order. I had never heard of the company but liked the looks of it and decided to commit. Boy, am I ever glad I did! The paper is SO rich! And this project required very little extras from me. I just let the DP do the work! LOVE IT!!! I love the weekly devotions at Stampin' Sisters in Christ. If you haven't had a chance to check out their site, please do. This week Chris Olsen shared a wonderful poem that she found in her mother in law's Bible. Please take a few moments to check it out here. It is difficult sometimes to accept things in God's time and not ours... Thanks Chris for sharing what God has revealed to you.

The challenge this week is to create something with wings and scripture. My card has a butterfly die and image from Our Daily Bread Designs. The background is paper from Webster's Pages which I distressed and inked before applying to card stock. The lovely die cuts are from Cheery Lynn Designs and when put together the Cathedral Lace and Fanciful Flourish remind me of a trellis with vines climbing up it. I went with that idea and adhered some mulberry roses my friend Sabrina recently sent! She has an eye for beautiful flowers! ;-) Thanks so much for visiting! I'll see you next time!

Welcome! Hope you are having a super Saturday! It is hard to believe that it is time for another Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light Challenge! And it is even more amazing to think our assignment this week is to use fall colors or themes! Where has the time gone?

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a prize, a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! Entries for the prize must be submitted by Friday, September 23 at 8 a.m. EST. One random winner will be chosen and announced next Saturday. If you are not using ODBD stamps, please do not enter more than once. Additional entries without using ODBD stamps will not be commented on or will they qualify for prizes.

While it is not required to use Our Daily Bread Designs images and sentiments on your creations, we would love to see them if you have them. As a way of recognizing those who do use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing 1 to 2 creations to spotlight for our Shining the Light Award. In order to qualify for this award, however, you must use Our Daily Bread stamps and have your submission added to Mr. Linky located here by next Friday. Grateful to be back...

Happy Friday! Today will be a catch up day at the Ulrich household. I am off work today and getting ready for John's youngest, Michael to arrive later today for the weekend. Can't wait to catch up with what has been happening at school!

As you may have noticed, I have been painfully quiet the last few days. And this fact is due to the issue I shared last post (a broken Cuttlebug...) I ordered from a major online company (and no, I will not name them) and my item arrived 8 business days after I placed the order. By this time I was quite frantic (exactly why my posts have been few and far between...) So Wednesday night I opened the box and proceeded to assemble my new Big Shot. But why wouldn't it assemble??? I watched You tube video after video and it seemed so simple... But yet, I couldn't do it... So dear hubs came home to a panicked look and quickly took control. After 30 minutes of tweaking and repeated analysis of the instruction book he finally concluded that the gears were not meeting and thus my Big Shot was a Big Flop.... AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!!!

So I contacted major internet sales company. They would be happy to overnight me a new Big Shot but ONLY after the broken one arrived in their office!!! Considering it took 8 days to get to me... (And did I mention it could take up to 4 weeks to get a refund?) Funny... they debited my checking the DAY I ORDERED....

So dear hubs called every store in a 70 mile radius from our home to find a Big Shot. Bad news... they no longer carried them... So he did a great deal of research (having a RETIRED hubs is grand....) and promptly found me a Big Kick for 50% off at Michaels!!!! He told them to hold it for me and drove 64 miles (one way) to pick it up!! GOD BLESS THIS MAN!!!!

I shared my horror experience with the Michael's CSR (I think his name was Lyle). He promptly said "let's open this one and make sure it meets your expectations!" This sweet young man took it out of the box, assembled it right there and made this customer VERY happy!!!! Thank you to the folks at Michael's on Hamburg in Lexington, Kentucky! You guys rock!!!! In this day and time it is so refreshing to find those in retail who go the extra mile! And big hugs to the best hubs in the world! Blessings...

It's been an interesting week. Labor Day was laborious as I promptly demolished my cuttlebug... (insert very sad face...)

So I had no choice but to order another machine. Well, to make a long story short... my new machine is parked in Indianapolis and has been since Friday at 8AM... And we wonder why the USPS is going broke.... ENOUGH SAID...

But there have been some wonderful things going on behind the scenes. God has truly blessed me! And one of those blessings includes a new badge on my blog. I was so honored to be chosen as the Shabby Tea Room's Challenge Winner for my Card Pink Wedded Bliss which you will find here. And with that win I will be guest designing for a challenge in late November. Please stay tuned for details... It will be fun!!! And surely my Big Shot will be here by then... ;-)

So on to todays just for fun... aka... I had to borrow a CB to finish this thing card... tee hee...
